I know we have some Braves fans on this board and I was saddened to read that the voice that taught me a lot about baseball as a kid has passed away at the age of 68.

He of course was the voice of the Braves for 3 decades and the son of the legendary Harry Carey.

You'll be missed, Skip. Thanks for the memories.

That is sad, his son Chip was an announcer with the Cubs also!

Yeah, Chip is currently a Braves announcer and also the TBS National Announcer.

He was announcing the Braves game today when he found out about his father's passing.

His brother Josh is also an announcer for the Single A Rome Braves.

Quite sad.
I was a huge fan growing up as well.
Skip will be missed.

brd, Chip is now with the Braves, they had been working together for the past few years. (although Skip had been steadily phased out)

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Clay, I almost called you when I saw this a few minutes ago, but was afraid you'd be sleeping.

I have a Skip Carey bobble head that is easily one of my favorite pieces of sports memorabilia. I boxed a lot of up recently to store, but the Skip bobble head survived the cut and sits next to my monitors.

He was my Vin Scully.

I learned what little a know about baseball and broadcasting from the man.
Which is to be beautifully grumpy and pessimistic at all times, but with that undercurrent of hope.

I'm glad you still have the bobble head.

Me asleep? Never. Well often, but not right now.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Sad news, indeed.

I remember Harry at the Cubs games when I went there, and how sad we all were when he died in 1998.....hopefully Skip is with his dad now

Wow, I grew up listening to him announcing for the Braves. He will be missed.

"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
