R.I.P. Dr. Bose

Dr. Amar Bose--acoustic engineer, inventor and founder of the eponymous audio equipment company which bears his name--has died.

My computer speakers, my iPhone headset, my bedside radio and my stereo speakers are all made by Bose. Without question, Dr. Bose brought me more hours of listening pleasure than any other person I can think of.

I still have the Bose 901 direct/reflection speakers that I bought more than 20 years ago. As I've stated elsewhere, I am not a finicky listener--I can watch You Tube recordings that make my audiophile friends cringe--but there is nothing like the 3-dimensional sound made by these speakers when positioned properly.

Close your eyes and you're there...

A pair of Bose 501s were the first fancy thing I ever bought myself with my own money. At a high end stereo shop. Where they sold turntables. Back in the 1900s.

My home theatre surround system is Bose. I absolutely love it.

My QuietComfort headphones have been a nearly-constant partner on my commutes in and out of the city for work and even before, when I was in school. He will be missed, but his legacy proudly lives on.

It's funny how so many of us around here keep finding new things we have in common. I inherited my mom's Bose radio (the one they advertise in Parade). She only used it to listen to AM talk radio. I do not think that was what Mr Bose had in mind.

Hah! My Wave radio belonged to my dear, departed Mother. She only used hers to listen to Yankee games! But she loved it...
