RAGING BULL will be at Film Forum through Thursday in an amazing new print. If you give a damn about movies, acting, or just art in general, don't miss this. I saw it yesterday, for the first time in a theater in way too many years, and was blown away all over again. An amazing and brutal and deeply moving experience, especially after all these years of only being able to view it on DVD. A reminder of why I used to give a sh*t about Martin Scorsese, before he settled in to making crap like DEPARTED and SH*TTER ISLAND.
The film, of course, centers on Jake La Motta, a middleweight boxer in the mid-1940s. More of a character study than a straightforward biopic, we see La Motta basically do everything he can to screw up his life big time. The film is impeccably acted, beautifully made in gorgeous black and white. If this film comes to your neck of the woods, drop everything and see it. Films don't get better than this.
Do not miss this. Just don't.
