RAY, the movie

Is effin' boring. Why was this ever made? And how did it win an Oscar?

Seriously.. I had to turn it off. I put in MEAN GIRLS.

Someone explain to me why this movie was such a big hype?

re: RAY, the movie

I wasn't crazy about the movie either, but I think it got its hype from Jamie Foxx's performance. And I believe most reviews were fairly negative towards the movie, aside from the acting.

re: RAY, the movie

I didn't like it either. I liked all of the performances - particularly the supporting roles - but Foxx was completely overrated and shouldn't have won the Oscar.

Wow... I thought I was the only person who didn't care for it. I couldn't get halfway through it.

He's not called Taylor HACKford for nothing......
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

re: RAY, the movie

The editing was atrocious (He used more wipes than a George Lucas film) but everything else was solid.

Capote and Walk the Line look much better.

re: RAY, the movie

I was a little underwhelmed, especially after all the hype. The most intriguing actor in it for me was the woman who played his mother in the flashbacks. I was flabbergasted to find out she had never acted in films before.

Same here - I thought she was amazing.

re: RAY, the movie

Holy crap- I agree with C_O.

At this point I'm pretty used to stupid awards decisions, but the fact that this piece of hokum was nominated for an Oscar over Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind really made me bitter. The latter was only the most original and well-made romantic comedy (heck, movie) to come along in years. So naturally it lost out to a cliché-ridden and boring biopic that happened to come out when its well-loved subject died. Grr.

re: RAY, the movie

I loved it apart from that terribly awful scene where they break into "Hit the Road, Jack".

That was the weirdest thing ever...insert musical theatre moment into a biography drama film. Very weird.

But, Foxx was fantastic, as was everyone in the film.

re: RAY, the movie

I agree with several of you. I did not enjoy the film. ETERNAL SUNSHINE was incredibly well-done and extremely creative.

My vote for Best Actor would have gone to Johnny Depp for Finding Neverland.

(Sorry Jerby; you are the one I don't agree with! I still love you, though!)

re: RAY, the movie

I agree with Depp. The only thing RAY won that it should have won was sound editing.

re: RAY, the movie

yep I agree with most everyone here... Ray was an overhyped, overrated movie, which was pretty much bad, and didn't deserve any of the accolades it recieved... I also thought that Jamie Foxx was less than mediocre... aaaand Johnny Depp most definately should have won... but there is rarely a movie that he is in where I don't think he deserves an Oscar

re: RAY, the movie

People actually agree with me? How weird.

Back on point, I thought the best scenes were those flashback scenes. Just so full of color and mood and uh.. they were great.

Captain_Odious I thought you weren't posting here anymore?
Have you been out helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina?

re: RAY, the movie

I guess since I'm not black I couldn't get the great meanting behind such a great, sophisticated, well planned and thought out PIECE OF SH*T movie.

Is that what you mean, Marquis?

re: RAY, the movie

Yes, the Captain is back. And as Namo quite beautifully explained before:

"The Return usually goes something like this. After swearing he's gone (for GOOD!) he reappears on the main board. An interjection in a harmless thread here, a jejune comment in a thread there, and some (generally younguns) posters do the obligatory "Oh my god, you're back! Welcome back that's so great!" They of course only recognize the screen name as one that is vaguely familiar in some way, not who Obvious is, explicitly.

And the cycle begins again."
