This is an amazing site!!!
This site featrures letters, poems, maps, photographs and stories from the veterans themselves for future generations and it keeps the memory alive of those who sacrificed everything to liberate Europe.
You enjoy learning aboout WWII, then I am sure you will like this site!!

That's really cool. I want to write a book about WWII and I have a whole trunk full of photos and letters and journals (and a very funny poen he wrote about Hitler) from when my grandfather was in the Marines.
Thanks for sharing that :)
We honor their service.
And let us also honor the 1,646 service members who gave their lives in Iraq.
Faces of the Fallen
better yet, honor all veterans who have died in all wars to protect us.
I may have not agreed with Vietnam, I may not agree with Iraq, but I honor all who gave their lives in the service of this country.
I am a veteran, and it is sheer luck that i am here......
Both grandfathers and two uncles are veterans. As Elphaba said, I may not agree with the wars, but I honor the service of those who have thought in them.
sad... i was able to find one of my teacher's son on that site PalJoey. reading some of those make me want to cry.
My husband is a veteran who bearly missed Iraq and my brother in law just get reactivated and is going through training right now to head to Iraq by Christmas. We owe so much to our soldiers. I want to thank all of them (Thanks Elphie!)
wow kel, I'll keep him in my thoughts........
Thanks, we thought that he would be safe from going over there because he had done 4 years active duty and was just biding his time in the reserves. They called him up, changed his MOS and are retraining him as I type. You know how military deployments go- he may not end up there, but it is still scary to think of. Greg (my husband) is in the IRR and I am praying that they don't start calling more IRR up.

Elphaba, I didn't know you are a veteran.
both my grandfathers are/were (one passed away 5 years ago, the other is alive) and a very close friend of mine went into the service in february. also, a friend from our fire house just returned home from Iraq a few weeks ago. we were all so happy to see him get home safe. i used to send him stuff when he was in iraq and he saved all of it. i didn't know he appreciated all the stuff so much till he got home and told us.
i don't agree with the wars either, but I still worry about all the men and women overseas defending our rights, including our right to not agree with everything out government does.
i have a page/journal set up on caringbridge for my grandfather if anyone's interested: http://www2.caringbridge.com/ct/nono
very cool brd!
abba, the Army forced me to grow up. I will always honor them for that.
One of my friends is 23 years old, and he is a war veteran. He served in Afghanistan for 2 years, and just finished his freshman year of college. Last November, we had classes on Veterans Day. On a day that was meant to honor those like him that have fought for their country, he had to go to class and take an exam. The dean even sent out an email to the entire school, suggesting that we remember those that had served that day, by visiting the nearby veterans' hospital, etc.
Another good friend from high school was sent to Iraq 3 weeks ago. It's the first time in 75 years that the Maryland National Guard has been called to active duty.
So here's to both my grandfathers, who have been honored for when they fought on D-Day, and to Jay, who will have to wait until the perception of veterans changes before he gets the respect he deserves.
I am old enought to be a vet & I am.
