RENT Audiition Songs???

Hi guys, I need help! I want to audition for an amateur production of RENT, and they are asking for 2 po/rock songs.. I am a girl, probably hoping for Mimi or Maureen.. Any suggestions? I really need to figure it out.. They strongly suggest NOT using songs from musicals, and just using pop/rock songs... HELP!! Thank you!!!

Kelly Clarkson is a good idea...but just don't do Breakaway.

Um, I'm not in the know with all of this pop/rock artists, though...

Are you auditioning for one of the Australian productions? Curious because the rights are only available internationally at this point.

I would try doing some old school stuff, like from the 80's or even earlier... I wish I could be more help for you, but good luck with everything.

If you want to do something more contemporary pop/rock, I would suggest something by Avril Lavigne.
