Alabama.com is reporting that Harper Lee has died at the age of 89, less than a year after the publication of her second novel, Go Set a Watchman.

RIP -- flights of angels sing her to her rest. That book of hers has entered our collective American consciousness in ways few works ever have or will. I seem to have read it frequently enough for big chunks of it to be etched in my memory -- I'll always treasure the depiction of Miss Maudie Atkinson, one of the coolest ladies in all of literature.
