Remember when George Lucas used to get out of the way and let other people in on his work? Sadly only directed other, less meaty franchise movies but wisely declined coming back to direct The Phantom Menace. Was ultimately a film instructor first.

WOW! Imagine if Irvin directed one of the prequels.

My favorite 'what if' of the directors was a meeting Lucas had with David Lynch to possibly direct Return of the Jedi. Cronenberg was also in the running.
He also directed THE EYES OF LAURA MARS with Faye Dunaway and UP THE SANDBOX with Babs Streisand.
He had definite style.
