I saw the Reverend this fall. LOVE HIM!! And Jimbo can beat a dog!! Who can play an acoustic like the Rev., huh??
Unfortunately, never seen 'em live. Who else do you listen to? How 'bout the Cramps?
An ex of mine was very into the Reverend Horton Heat. I never understood that and he never understood my Tori Amos thing - we were doomed from the start! lol

Awww....Matthew, you're a sweetheart. :)
If I were to give rockabilly another chance, what do you recommend I start with? Rockabilly for Dummies, if you will.

I say start with the roots. Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins, Bill Hailey...
Thanks Matt. Will look into it this weekend. :)

I love the Stray Cats but I haven't taken the time to get into it beyond that -- I always mean to, though.

The Stray Cats were great! They were my first exposure to contemporary rockabilly when I was a kid in the early '80s. I still follow Brian Setzer's career and love most of the stuff he puts out. I'm really dissapointed that I missed him in Atlantic City this past New Year's Eve...

Mr. Rask - I've seen Mr. Setzer many, many times - from the Stray Cat days til now. It's ALWAYS a fabulous show!

That's great Mr. Grant! I saw a PBS special of him in concert in Japan. He puts on a great show FULL of energy. He'll be back around and I'll get the chance...

My 'hang-out' in Phoenix was a great blues club called The Rhythm Room. They would have rockabilly in every once in awhile - including the Reverend - and it was always a good way to lift the roof off the place. SO much energy!

Here in NYC I hang out at The Rodeo Bar a lot. They have a lot of Texas Swing bands but some really great rockabilly bands go through there, too. The Rodeo has tasty margaritas, all the free peanuts you can eat (just toss the shells on the ground, or throw them at each other), and the food is wonderful to snack on!!

I really love the old stuff. Eddie Cochran, Johnny Horton, Stray Cats....
You CAN'T sit still with this stuff on! (Now - where did I put that CD of Hot Rod Lincoln?)
Let's have a party..... Wanda Jackson

mr. rask you continue to amaze. who'da thunk you'd have taste in music too? i saw the flying neutrinos at the rodeo bar and still have an unending crush on ingrid lucia. yeah, i know, that's swing and not rockabilly, but i'm a fan of the classics, like ya mentioned, gene, carl, all them sun boys. i split my itunes radio time between boot liquor (bootliquor.com) and rockabilly radio (rockabillyradio.net). if you haven't checked out the 5,6,7,8's you should i think you'd like 'em.
