Two of the most exciting concerts I've attended in recent memory were Raul Esparza's Desi Arnaz tribute at the 92nd street Y last week and Paulo Szot's "American Songbook" contert at Lincoln Center's Allen Room last year. Paulo surprised the crowd by devoting 95% of the show to "the South American Songbook", with gorgeous, sexy songs from Brasil and Argentina, while Raul seemed to be REALLY enjoying himself and cutting loose with classic, hot Cuban songs from the '40s and '50s.
Someone on another, non-theater board floated the idea of the two of them doing a concert together - sort of a "When Rhumba meets Samba: LATIN HEAT" show.
I think it's a sensational idea. I'd LOVE to see it happen - and I'd pay big bucks to see it. What say you guys?

What's not to like? I am trying to picture the sound of their voices together in a duet, though, and I can't. Anyone else want to hazard a (non-snarky) guess?
I really thought this was going to be "here's a rumor, is it true?!" and I was going to say that I would absolutely DIE. I'm not sure how they'd sound together, but I don't think I'd assume the combination would be bad. I'm still not out of the haze that Desi Arnaz concert put me in last weekend. I loved it so much.

I'm there!
It would be hot to see Paulo Szot and Raul Esparza sharing the stage....
