re: Rebecca

Oh God, I completely agree! I loved The Carol Burnett Show, and the movie spoofs were some of my favorites! Especially Gone With the Wind and Mildred Pierce.

re: Rebecca

I think both the book and the Hitchcock are great.

And of course, Charles Ludlam's "The Mystery of Irma Vep" is a comedy loosely based on Rebecca.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

The spoofs were terrific...the comedic ones too. Lovely Story, Pillow Squak...omg!

When she sings Que Sera, Sera.

I remember being amazed by Bernadette, seeing Ken Berry dance (had a crush on him!) Great tv.

I've only ever seen Hitchcock's version and haven't gotten around to reading the novel yet, but I love it.

Currently playing on TCM.

I adore this film.

Tidbits:

Just as in the original novel, Mrs. de Winter has no first name.

Because Laurence Olivier wanted his then-girlfriend Vivien Leigh to play the lead role, he treated Joan Fontaine horribly. This shook Fontaine up quite a bit, so Alfred Hitchcock decided to capitalize on this by telling her EVERYONE on the set hated her, thus making her shy and uneasy - just what he wanted from her performance.

re: Rebecca

Addy, in the scene where she is in her office, I saw a notebook, address book, etc with one single letter....."J" I believe.....and I think they mentioned the first wifes first name, didn't they?
Or is it jetlag?

re: Rebecca

thanks for the alert that this was on. I'd recently re-read the book for my book club and we'd discussed watching the movie, but didn't have the time to do it.

I personally was surprised at how few of the characters resembled what I'd pictured in my mind while reading the book. I'd especially made Mrs. Danvers much older that she was in the film.

I was also disappointed that the scene in the car at the end was between Maxim and Frank and not Maxim and his wife. I sort of like the idea in the book that they just keep driving past the fire and on to their new life.

well, NO reason now to read the book.......

re: Rebecca

I read the book for a class years ago, and was surprised at how closely the film follows it, for the most part. Of course, there's that one BIG change...

I like the movie well enough, but it isn't one I go out of my way to watch.
