joeyjoe and I had the distinct pleasure (our out-of-town guest bought us tickets - yea!) to see Reckless last night and it was fantastic. I am a big Mary Louise Parker fan anyway, and I was mesmerized by her performance. Debra Monk was wonderful also, as were the rest of the cast. Olga Merediz (I hope I spelled that right, don't have the playbill in front of me) shines in supporting roles and really grabs your attention. Its a well directed and wonderfully written piece - Craig Lucas has also written the book for Light in the Piazza and now I'm anxious to see what thats all about. I went into the performance last night not knowing much about the play, thinking it was going to be a comedy - but there was SO much pathos in it, I ended up weeping at the end. Really beautifully mounted production - see it if you can.
Well thanks, Redhot, but I can't
. It will be gone by the time I am in NYC next year and I would give my right arm to see Mary Louise Parker on stage again after Proof. Glad you had a great time though.
Pop - I loved it, I really did - I'm gonna write a card to both she and Debra Monk and drop them at the stage door - these ladies really know how to use their equipment (for lack of a better term) their acting skills are really fantastic. Debra plays 6 different roles and makes them all individual characters - so wonderful. I'm still tingly from the show!
last week, mrs. mambo and m'self were wandering around the 50's when suddenly she grabbed my arm. here next to us hailing a cab while chatting away on her cell phone was ms. parker herself, on her way down to the theatre, surely. mrs. mambo mouthed with her back to the estwhile west winger, "isn't she??" i said back to her, "yep. she sure is and doesn't she look great?" i got a wink and a smile for that comment. truth be told, she didn't look that good at all! but she's one of those actresses that is quite chameleon-like even in her daily life and from appearance to appearance on stage and film and tv. i've seen her go from drop dead stunning to frump in the course of a scene. it must be nice for her knowing that whenever she wants to she can turn on the shine and wowzer!
Yep - I know very few actresses with her versatility and poise. And she just seems so damned intelligent. In interviews she is so well spoken - she seems like the kind of person I'd have wanted as a best friend in school or something.
