Within a year I plan on purchasing a new computer and a new digital camera/cam corder.

Anyone recommend any specific computer, software, or digital camera/cam corder? (With a budget of $2000 or less).

I heard the way to go is Mac if you plan on doing video editing. I will begin shooting low-budget independent films and youtube videos, but I would like them to be of a greater quality and I would like good editing capablitiy.

Any assistance is muchly appreciated as I continue to do my own research...

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Definitely the way to go is Mac. Especially if you are a aspiring film maker. Go to any studio here in Los Angeles and you will find that they are ALL on macs. The editing software that comes with macs is "I movie" . It is pretty good and extremely easy. But depending on how much your going to do.. you might want to look into Final Cut. As far as cameras.. technology changes so fast. Check out consumerreports.org .

definitely a Mac..if you are going for a laptop you'll need to get the MacBook pro to support editing properly, or the latest desktop model if you want more power and storage.

Final Cut pro is the editing software program a lot of companies are switching to, but Avid is also a popular Mac editing program.

I wish I had a Mac. My bf does and it just seems to be better in so many ways. Plus it comes with a camera for certain projects.

I've been using Windows Movie Maker on my PC, and it's been fine for what I have been doing so far, but it's limited in some ways and it screws up the sound quality to all my vids.

I've been using a Canon ZR200. It's ok--though I might not be using it to my advantage. Maybe it would be a great camera if I knew how to use all the features. I'd prob go with something nicer than that if you are a serious filmmaker.

Definitely check out all of the specifications one needs on a camera. And maybe you should get an HD camera if they aren't ridiculously priced. HD is growing so huge.
