OK - so it's time for me to get into the new millenium - what do you professional singers use to record your coaching sessions? With all the latest technology, I'm thinking there surely are better ways than hand-held tape-recorders, more like mini disc recorders that can play back in your computer or stereo? Fill me in - I need to purchase something soon.
Thanks, in advance and don't hesitate to pm me if you'd like to.
Bump - Help!!!LOL...
Actually, gotta give it to the mp3 players.
The Dell Jukebox actually has a mic built in, the Ipod you have to buy a mic.
Then you can just transfer it from the device onto your computer.
Thank you!
iPods record pretty good quality. I was surprised.. Mini disk is even better though.
we've been looking around for minidisk recorders but can't seem to find any... can you recommend one?
Yeah, you can have one of mine. :)
I have about three of them from Japan if I can ever dig them out of whatever box they're hiding in. A simple mic of any kind can be attached to them and they record well...but I still prefer the MP3 process, as they're so much easier to transfer to your computer (and then burn onto a disc if you want).
Now, my question for anyone else reading this: do Ipod minis also have recording capabilities if you buy a mic?

I'm pretty sure I saw some on Amazon a while back.
I don't think they do, bway.
On that same topic, though, I just bought a detachable mic for my iPod. They record beautifully, and if you already have an iPod, it's probably cheaper than buying a separate recording device.
Dang, Emcee. Not the part I wanted to hear. It figures they wouldn't though, although they do have the little port next to the mic port that carries extra information and I imagine a mic would fit it, but I do not recall ever seeing a record option in here.
Yeah, I don't know. I know someone who wanted to buy the thing I have (there are two versions... one that's one piece and one that has a mic and separate adapter - she got the two-part one) but she has a mini, and it doesn't fit. Not seeing a recording option on the iPod doesn't necessarily mean that, though. When I pop the mic into mine, it goes in the headphone port, and then the record options come up on screen.
There are a couple of different mics that you can buy for Ipods. The record option will only appear when the mic is attached. I love mine..
As for mini disks you have to transfer them to the computer at actual playback speed. If you record an hour worth of stuff it will take an hour to transfer, Ipods are definately faster, but not as high of a quality. Check Ebay for mini disks though if thats the route you want to go..
camerangel, can you just pop the disc into a CD player and play it? or do you HAVE to transfer to a computer and then burn onto another disc?
Joey, you can us the mini disk recorder as a player too. But the mini disks aren't cd's they look more like a disk. so you would have to transfer them and burn them if you want it on a cd. It really depends on what you are planning on recording would depend on what I would recommend..
redhot is taking a voice class, and the instructor asked that they bring recorders with them...
Oh ok, I wasn't sure if you were asking for the same reasoning..
nope, asking for redhot... he needed one for his class this evening...
Then I would say if he has an iPod already just get the mic for it. They run around $30 to $40 and work quite well.. I've used mine to record rehearsals..
If you're going to get one of the iPod mics, get the Griffin iTalk. There's also a Belkin version, but since you have to buy the mic PLUS an adaptor, it's more expensive, and I know people haven't been as happy with the recording quality. The Griffin version is really compact and very easy to use. It just clicks right into the top of your iPod.
I haven't used the belkin version.. the Italk is grat though..
thanks Em I should have clarified that..
::hugs iTalk::
Just make sure you um, read the directions, unlike I did when I first used it. I sort of ended up without a recording because I pushed the wrong button.

Pfft. Instruction booklets are for wimps. Everyone knows you only read them after the device starts to smell like it's burning.
Whoops.. the other thing is that it has to be pushed all the way in and the light has to be on.. the iPod may show it's recording but if that light is not on, it's NOT.. **cries over unrecorded data**
I poked at it first, but then I got impatient. I had to figure out what I was doing in like... two hours, and I'm horrid with tech stuff. Apparently it still didn't do me any good.
Your screen will also SAY "recording." It's really not hard, I'm just a loser.
You are not a loser.. My screen said recording but wasnt, the red light wasn't on.. I thought maybe the light had just burned out.. I later figured out that I had accidentally loosened the mic.. I was soo upset.. still am actually..
