#0Refreshing And Nourishing Our Souls
Posted: 10/1/05 at 5:22pmMy Rabbi gave an interesting sermon this morning about the importance of refreshing and nourishing our souls. We are all so busy with work, emails, ipods, driving kids, committments, etc that we often forget what we need to do spiritually. Even G-d stopped on the seventh day and rested after the world was created. I belong to a medium sized conservative congregation in CT. On a Saturday morning, we get at best perhaps 20 to 30 people for services. Yet I know that for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur the place will be crawling with a few hundred people. I think as we feed our bodies, we need to take the time to also feed our souls.

Though I will participate in Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services, I will not yet be cleaning my soul...I know that I am not prepared for it yet, as I have some more work to do, spiritually.
That's part of the reason I'm excited that I get to work with children during the high holidays! I get more out of teaching children then I do with the conservative liturgy at this point in my life.

I've been spending some enriching Heavenly Father Time by frequenting the website of Miss Lisa Whelchel, actress/mom/homeschool teacher and most importantly, wife of a born again Christian minister. I've even joined her online Mom Time support group, which is why I haven't been around here so much lately.
Though not a mom myself, I find the chance to just kick back and share the laughter, challenges and tears of being a mom today in our busy, hectic, minivan-driving-to-gymnastics world, that I really look forward to just blowing my bangs up off my forehead and sitting back with a cup of herbal tea and relaxing with "my girls."
I hope if you decide to explore Lisa's website, that you find it as spiritually nourishing as I have, and that you get some great deals in her online store!

Must I what? Share my ideas on how I personally nourish my soul in a thread devoted to that topic?
I'm not really sure what you're saying here, Shira, the communication isn't very clear. You might benefit from Lisa Whelchel's helpful Mom Time Journal... a place where you can gather and clarify your thinking, so others might better understand what it is you're attempting to say.
Here's an excerpt of what Lisa herself has to say about the journal:
MomTime Journal
The MomTime journal is designed with busy mothers in mind. It is a place to capture those precious encounters in your life, however brief, when you know that you met Jesus and received nourishment. Your journal should be kept somewhere handy so that you can easily reach for it and record those unforgettable moments. Before they are forgotten. (Because we all know that part of the memory goes out with the placenta.)
Have you ever thrown yourself across the bed and cried out to God? Then grab your MomTime journal and pour out your feelings in the Open Heart section. Do you remember a time when a thought popped into your head and you knew it was the Lord speaking to you? The Sweet “Everythings” section is the place to write down what you heard.
