Weinberger (both of Mary Tyler Moore Show fame) wrote the teleplay, and the cast included Cleavant Derricks, Clifton Davis and Nell Carter. Definitely worthy of a remake/revival, on TV or on stage. Not sure about new cast. Any suggestions? Audra McD. as Fairy Godmother?

Posted: 1/4/06 at 12:20pmCharlaine Woodard was Cindy w/ Nell (pre "Gimme a Break" and just off her Tony win but going by the name Nell-Ruth Carter) and Alaina Reed of "227" as the stepsisters. The dreamy Clifton Davis was the prince character and Cleavant Derricks was also in the cast.

I remember Cindy. It may be a little dated by today's standards. For example, there's a whole song about how her father is the men's washroom attendant at the Plaza Hotel.
