Oh yes. She was a glorious Julie, opposite Von Stade as Magnolia, in what I consider the closest to definitive "Show Boat" recording yet.
Then I did see a documentary about the making of that recording - she was stunning.
We just saw Deborah Voight in Ballo in Maschera on Friday--our third time seeing her sing at the Met. This was not my favorite opera by a long shot--nor was Die Frau Ohne Schatten--but she has moved to my short list of Opera Singers I'd See Do Anything.
Do you know her, kj? Or do you just call her Debbie because she's lost so much weight this year that she's become more a Debbie than a Deborah? I've heard from people who've met her or worked with her that she's down to earth and has a great sense of humor.
Did you see Karita get naked in the Salome last year? Never did I ever think I'd see an opera diva naked at the Met--and not run screaming from the opera house. Plus her singing AND acting--WOW!

Don't know Voight personally, but call her Debbie because I love her so much. Didn't see Karita do Salome live, but most certainly listened to and downloaded the broadcast. Unbelievably great! Thanks for your posts, Joey.

i can't imagine anyone being naked at the met. actually, now that i try, it's quite hilarious...especially because of the notorious diva attitudes of some of those sopranos. you wouldn't think they'd want to take off their clothes!!! hahaha, it's all so hilarious.

Here's a better one. She played Salome like a teenage sex kitten.
I hope she returns to the role... I regret missing that production....
"Debbie" is a hoot!
And, that was a wonderful production at the Met.
If I recall, Cookie, you still hadn't seen any German opera. She'll be at the Met next April in Lohengrin...
I did see that she'll be in Lohengrin, PJ. I should really have checked out either Mattila in "Salome" or Taymor's "Die Zaberflote" as my German opera intro...

The Renee Fleming Cd is called "Haunted Heart" and will be released on May 10th!
And Kiss My Cookie, WHO is that???
Cookie--you can see the Magic Flute again next season. But if you decide to do Lohengrin, do it the night we're going. (I'll let you know which performance.)
And, JV--look at this song list for Haunted Heart--she's doing "My Cherie Amour"?!?!?
1. Haunted Heart
2. River
3. When Did You Leave Heaven?
4. You've Changed
5. Answer Me
6. My Cherie Amour
7. In My Life
8. The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress
9. Wozzeck/The Midnight Sun
10. Liebst du um Schönheit
11. My One And Only Love/This Is Always
12. Canção do Amor
13. Psyché
14. Hard Times Come Again No More
I was eyeing Die Zaberflote for next season.
I will keep that in mind, PJ. I was also eyeing Mattila in Fidelio. Granted, it's not the same as hearing it with Addy and Deborah Voight in Carnegie Hall, but it will suffice...
I saw the definitive Fidelio when Addie led the entire mezzo section and Deborah Voight in making Idina hands. Even Karita Mattila couldn't top that!
It is difficult to top Idina hands at Carnegie....
Oh Dear Lord.
are you raising your hands in prayer Addy, or doing Idina hands again?

Next I want to sing Salome. Just think of what I could do with that...
When you hold your hands up in Idina hands--the last of the seven veils drops!
