I'm trying to build a new audition repertoire book for an upcoming broadway audition. What types of songs should my book consist of?And also, would Run and Tell That be a bad choice because hairspray is popular right now?

Generally, it is recommended you have atleast 2 of each type of song:
-Contemporary Theatre (1980s-present)
-Standards (1940s-1980s)
-Period (1920s-1930s) Includes Gershwin, Porter, Coward, Berlin, Kern, etc. Some of these may spill into Standards
-Pop/Rock (not necessarily MT)

You might also want to have some extra pieces such as classical works if you are trained classically as well. As for Run and Tell That, I've heard two things regarding popular songs. I've heard that anything currently on Broadway is a no-no, but I've also heard that if the song showcases your voice outstandlingly, go for it. I think that's a choice you have to make on your own. Good luck!
