Report: anti-gay org to run ad in NYT blaming gays for 'Campaign Of Violence' in wake of Prop 8

You knew this was coming -- it was only a matter of time before the emotion and outrage in the LGBT community after Prop 8 would be turned into a rampaging mob of heathen homosexuals persecuting Christians. The Blend has received word that the The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty is pulling together a full page ad to run in the NY Times within the next few days, charging the LGBT community's response to Prop 8 is a "Campaign of Violence."

According to our source, the ad will cite an incident where a white powder was sent to a church, and "document" disruptions of services at houses of worship. The Becket Fund is also allegedly contacting like-minded anti-gay organizations to request that they sign on to the ad.

I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Funny, I haven't heard a word on where the white powder came from...

And if they buy an ad that has lies in it, the Humans Rights Campaign should sue them.

Here's the email I just sent them:

I received word that the The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty is pulling together a full page ad to run in the NY Times within the next few days, charging the LGBT community's response to Prop 8 is a "Campaign of Violence."

Please say that you are NOT going to post their unfounded accusations in your paper.

It is your responsibility to make sure that what they say in the ad is based on FACTS and PROOF.

If you let them post an ad with lies in it, I will never buy your paper again and I will ask that the Human Rights Campaign sue you for defamation and slander.

anti-gays to use nyt against the violent gays who oppose their oppression

bands of marauding gays attacking and forcibly deep throating the purest mormons, priests and deacons being tormented by unfinished prostate massages at the hands of cruel gay massuers, lesbians everywhere luring unwitting housewives into sapphic sex-cults and hit squads of naked gays peeing on everything in sight. these things and more are being done to those poor kind souls whose only goal is to preserve marriage and safeguard humanity from the twin-devils of buttsex and double ended dildos.

shame on you for not supporting these brave souls as they stand athwart progress and scream, "no!"

but will any of you read it online giving them the hit counts they need to sustain online advertising revenue?

They call this "violence"? I guess they never heard of Matthew Shepard or Paul Broussard. They obviously have NO grasp on reality or perspective, but what else is new? Who does their PR? Ashley Todd? Hold her down, boys, and remember to carve the G forward!

Idiots.

I hope they do print it. It is the most ridiculous ad they could have come up with.
Violence? I mean, enough violence to take out a full page ad for is something like the Watts Riots, or of that level.
And do you think that America has an impression of homosexuals as violent?

The ad will cause cognitive-dissonance at best, or maybe a chuckle.

I hope they print it. And I hope people realize that the folks who are so adamant about delineating "hate crimes" as somehow worse than "regular crimes" and that calls yelling a homophobic slur "violence against gays" realizes their part in creating an atmosphere in which chanting and yelling can be labelled "violence."

Seriously.

Do that many people really consider hate crimes to be worse than other incidents of violence? I think many just feel that because the system often works against groups that are targeted in such a way, hate crime laws are neccessary.

I don't think slurs should be categorized as violence, but I don't think that has to do with them believing that language=violence. They're presenting false information in order to cast gays in a negative light.

If they print it, stupid people (99% of America) will believe it because it IS in print.

Doesn't amtter if it's a lie.

The Bush administration has taught us that.

And then have to fire staff members because it cost them too much.

We can only hope.

You have to realize that just because an ad is printed in The Times or any publication doesn't mean that the publication agrees with it. It just pays the bills. I bet that if they do publish it there will be an editorial letter saying that they are sorry for doing so.

The New York Times is a pretty liberal paper as are most of its readers. I am sure that most of the readers who do see the ad in question if it is in fact printed will shrug it off as something stupid. But, it will only take one group somewhere to write a letter or two for them (The Times) to write an editorial letter.

I say let them run the ad. They are paying for ad space just like everyone else. If the readers are smart (and for the most part the readers of The Times are) then they would realize that an ad in any publication doesn't always reflect with how that publication feels on a given topic.

But, it is a fact in this country that you can't do anything without pissing off some group of people somewhere. They wouldn't realize that there is freedom of speech. And the anti Prop 8 people have just as much a right to broadcast their views how they see fit. Just like those who are against it can do the same thing.

And for the record, I feel that the anti prop 8 people are off their rocker.

Winston, you think the anti prop 8 people are off their rocker? The anti prop 8 people are LGBTs and their supporters. Just want to clarify that's who you think are the nuts, as you post here on the big musical theater related forum.

Sorry, I wrote that as soon as I woke up and I wasn't thinking clearly at all. I mean the Prop Prop 8 people. I meant to say that even though I don't agree with them I feel that they have every right to run that ad if they want to pay the money for it.
