OMG. Don't they know who he used to be (the winner of a contest on TV)? Don't they know who he is (the boyfriend of a member of a defunct boy band)? Poor Richard (oh, sorry), REICHEN, was supposed to be receiving a Pride Recognition Award at the California State Capitol.
"Democrat Assembly member Mark Reno said the awards show 'the strength of our diversity and the many accomplishments in a variety of disciplines.'" Such disciplines as TV Contest Winning and Celebrity Spouse Hunting.
But instead, the rude Republicans made a mockery of the whole damn thing.
And some of the gays weren't any kinder. As one DL wag put it: "wow, he really is a heat seeking missle for fame, isn't he? you almost have to admire his devotion to the marketing of the product known as reichen - this odd blend of jack wrangler and eve harrington he-beast masquerading as patsy kensit with a penis."
My thoughts are with Lance and Reichen during this difficult time.

LOVE that line.
In 2004, as I've said before, we were waiting under the Eiffel Tower to get in and Reichen walked by, and I almost wet my pants. I find him incredibly attractive

Somebody with the name "ocb" wrote that description. "[O]dd blend of jack wrangler and eve harrington he-beast..." is the sort of phrase I could fixate upon for hours.
"People on reality shows should be treated like criminals. They should not profit from their foolish behaviour."
Criminals? Why? Just because you personally don't like them? What laws have they broken? How is winning The Amazing Race foolish other than by your own elitist view? Gimme a break.
"and what diversity?"
Well, Marc Reno said, "the strength of our diversity and the many accomplishments in a variety of disciplines" and the article states about Reichen:
"33-year-old Reichen Lehmkuhl won the US reality show 'The Amazing Race' and has subsequently worked as a model and TV presenter.
He served in the US Air Force for five years and is a leading advocate of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Team, opposing the current ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy of the US military."
So apparently, enough people found his efforts worthy enough for an award. If you don't think so, then maybe you should participate in the nomination process. What part do you play in the Pride Recognition Awards and what makes you qualified to determine who is or is not worthy?
"How does someone so undeserving of all this attention stay in the public's eye?"
By staying involved in activities that keep you in the public eye such as modeling and/or television as the article stated. Chip and Reichen were the first gay couple to win The Amazing Race just when the series really started to rake in the ratings. Reichen subsequently went on to make guest appearances on Frasier, Drew Cary, The Young and the Restless, and Days of Our Lives, as well as produce his own show. What makes you think he is "undeserving"?

I hope that you feel the same way about the "American Idol" people that are being cast in Broadway shows just because they were on a game/reality show.
The funniest thing about the article, Namo, is that it appears that no one was directly heckling Reichen at all. The Republicans chose to act like bitches at the ceremony, but reichen was only one of six honorees. Did they choose the moment he specifically was honored to interrupt the proceedings, or what? The quote from the Republicans doesn't mention Reichen either. The other nominees are not even mentioned in the article. It's all very vague and tabloidish.
"'Ladies and Gentlemen, I rise to point out the ridiculousness of the exercise. We're wasting a lot of time we have a lot of bills on the floor.' George Plescia is quoted by KXTV-Sacramento."
That doesn't even make sense. He makes it sound like it was some sort of unplanned interruption. Did he not know about the event? Or more likely, was he just not invited? If people have a problem with the honorees, then they should do something to be more directly involved in the process. Otherwise, the only point they made was that they wish to directly insult someone who received an award and had nothing to do with the process about which they are complaining. Bitter queens.
i heard they threw santorum.
Obviously, I'm missing some reference to another thread because I've been busy lately, so WHATEVER!
You guys suck.
:-P
"People on reality shows should be treated like criminals. They should not profit from their foolish behaviour."
why, because they put themselves in front of the public eye? Because they have the juevos to do something you do not......
crawl back under your rock, eye.......
I, too, don't understand that comment. Sure, some reality shows are garbage--but many are actually the opposite. Regardless, many performers have used the reality show trend as a launching pad. And who can blame them? For many, it has worked quite well. And good for them. It's survival of the fittest in this business. You have to do what you can to get your break.

I can only imagine how hurtful it was for Rei and Lan.
