Republicans lose Hastert's seat

"Democrat Bill Foster has snatched former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's congressional seat in a closely watched special election that gave the longtime Republican district to the Democrats.

Foster has won 52 percent of the vote compared to 48 percent for Republican Jim Oberweis with 556 of 568 precincts reporting."

This is one of the most Republican of all Republcan districts. The campaign was fierce and local Righties are REELING this morning. If they can lose here, they can lose EVERYWHERE this fall.

Oberweiss owns the dairy that bears his name- and has had an unbroken string of political losses. He ran for the Senate seat currently held by Obama in 2004. Hopefully he will run (And lose) for many many many more offices.

To clarify - Oberweis lost in PRIMARIES in his past three runs for office.

The Republican nominee against Obama for Senate was Jack Ryan - ex-husband of actress Jeri Ryan. He was forced to drop out when their divorce papers revealed he tried to force her to visit sex clubs. As a replacement candidate, they imported crazy-ass Alan Keyes. The Illinois Reublican party has pretty much been a joke since then.
