Some I remember
1. Nedicks - They served food so they were a restaurant
2. Patricia Murphy's
3. Brass Rail
4. Toffenetti's
5. Bolzano (Recent - Lost not only a restaurant here)

Mr. Roxy, you are so sadly uninformed.
Nedick's has been operating in Penn Station for some time now.
Wake up and smell the Nedicks.
Believe they have gone but I could be wrong
I will be in the area Saturday & will confirm it one way or the other.
They were there as of 03/06/06 with their repulsively artificial orange drinks hehe.
Good news indeed. It appears I was wrong & I herewith apologize
One I know is definitely gone & Dolly will agree & lament with me is the Automat (s)
Whole Wheat'n Wildberries
Barrymores
Nathan's in Times Square
Mc Hale's
Patricia Murphy's - Faux Pretentiousness
Bolzano was a surprise!
Barrymore's (now that is just a shame!) The sign said it all
"Closed Forever"
The good news is that Balzano's is being replaced with a Junior's
It has a good location but the rent must be big enough to choke a horse - probably a Clydesdale
To be sure Mr Roxy, but Barrymore's? That was a knife in my heart!

Definitely Barrymore's. I can't even walk down 45th street the same anymore - I avoid it at all costs.
The Mad Hatter
Cottonwood Cafe; how I miss their banana-blueberry pancakes and chicken fried steak.
Howard Johnson's - Again if they served food they were a restaurant
HoJo's no great loss. Food was crappy and the service was glacial at best.
Yes they did have plastic food & the bathroom had not been cleaned since it opened & it was down to about 11 flavors at the end but I do miss it on the corner
I think the head Chef there was Chef Boyardee

Yamaguchi- Had the best tuna sushi.
and in Brooklyn Heights; The Montague Street Saloon. Great cajun noodles and great place to hang on Fridays after work.
Mama Leone's. I used to go to with my parents whenever we visited NYC. I was crushed when it closed (I was about 14 years old)
My first time ever visiting New York - 1965. I went with my best friend on a bus to see The Beatles at Shea Stadium and we ate at the automat. What fun! A terrific (and inexpensive) New York experience that I'll always remember. I work at the Smithsonian and we have one of Horn & Hardart's automat 'walls' in the American History museum. I want so much to go up to those little doors and pull out a piece of pie!
