Mom,
Cafe Mogador on St. Mark's and 1st has AMAZING Moroccan food. Tagines, cous cous, salads, and more intricate items. Great wine list, and the prices are so reasonable. But get there early- this place fills up fast.

Hey it's a bit of a hike, but it's worth it.
Odessa Restaurant on 1st Ave or Ave. A bewteen like 6th and 8th Streets and on the West side of Tompkins Sq. Park.
Fabulous potato pancakes, kielbasa, sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage and the BEST pirogies in many flavors--a big platter of all that is like $8 or so plus tax and tip. Argh! Makes me hungry to think of it!

Mom,
If you go during the week before 6 they have an amazing dinner special at the Cottage. For 10, it comes with a salad, glass of decent wine (Shiraz) and an entree. I love that place.
There is another place across the street from the Public it is an Asian restaurant with a back patio and they even give free edname with a drink. I have had drinks there, fun on a nice day.

Corine is talking about Indochine. Gorgeous place, a bit pricier.
It was THE place to see and be seen during the 80s.
