The best of the best. A true legend.

"Honey- Men don't want one woman. Do the same thing. Date many men. I DO! I am going through the exact same thing. Don't over eat, instead date others. You will be amazed how much fun it will be. Also play hard to get. Men are dogs honey. DOGS!" - Corine2 10/29/04

Avedon was a great photographer. Right up there with Ritts and Scavullo. I love all their work.

he was also fairly well known for taking unflattering photos of celebs to make points, sometimes I think. Look for Avedon photos of Marilyn Monroe...most of them are NOT in her best moments. re: Richard Avedon has passed away

"Applause begets applause in the theatre, as laughter begets laughter and tears beget tears." CLAYTON HAMILTON, "Theory of the Theatre" "I think theater ought to be theatrical ... you know, shuffling the pack in different ways so that it's -- there's always some kind of ambush involved in the experience. You're being ambushed by an unexpected word, or by an elephant falling out of the cupboard, whatever it is." TOM STOPPARD

That's one of the appealing things about his photos, they often showed the real person. They were never done to make the eprson look bad, it always seemed more like he was trying to find the art and beauty in realism. You can see this more in his non celeb photos which are some of the most beautiful and haunting. There was series he did of average people in various parts of the country. They were compiled into a book but, I can't remember the title.

I know which one you're talking about...I saw it at a bookstore once and almost bought it. Wishing now that I had.

I would bet that it's still in print and available. It's the one with the photos of Midwestern farm families, Native Americans in New Mexico...beautiful work.

Thank goodness for all the great work he left behind - and cheers to the long life he had to live.

This made me think of POLisPOL - I miss his posting.

As an artist, myself, I've always appreciated great photography and envied those who can capture that special moment in just the right way to tell an entire story with their pictures. Avedon was one of those I envied. You can look into teh face of someone he ahs photographed and see their entire lives. Amazing that anyone can capture that.
