Just got home from a screening, a really enjoyable movie. Not sure if I was supposed to be rooting for the Apes, well done and a great coke and popcorn summer movie.
Stay for the credits, the film has an extra scene after the directed by.

"Not sure if I was supposed to be rooting for the Apes"
LOL. That thought occurred to me when I saw the trailer on TV.
Will I be lost having not seen the previous Planet of the Apes movie or does this movie hold up on its own?

Why wouldn't you root for the apes? I, for one, salute our new simian overlords!
The instant Franco uttered 'the cure' and how he said it immediately made me pull for the apes. Hail, Caesar!
It's getting raves, which totally caught me by surprise.
I've heard of a possible Oscar campaign for Serkis (they did this for Gollum also, to no avail).
pushdabutton, you don't need to have seen any of the other movies to enjoy this. It's a prequel to the original film.
I still remember Chuck Heston saying those immortal lines "Get your hands off of me you damn dirty apes"
The last trailer I saw before Harry Potter actually looked really good. I was pleasantly surprised, especially since the first teaser trailer sucked.
That's what has sold me best12bars. I had no interest at all until I saw the recent trailer.
I was really surprised at how entertaining it was. With a star from the Harry Potter films in a supporting role.
That's why my sister wants to see it. She has a thing for Tom Felton
Tom plays a baddie again.
I *really* liked the first one. It's a shame the rest and the remake and the TV series never captured that bizarre style. But I've also wondered what a closer adaptation of Pierre Boule's original novel would be like. If you've not read it, I really suggest tracking it down. It's utterly surreal.
I agree Sean, the novel was wonderful! Well worth trying to find and reading!

Looking forward to seeing this. The novel is terrific, a must read and I just checked, it's available on Amazon.
Tom plays a baddie again.
Yeah, I told her that it looked that way from the trailer and that I wasn't sure he'd survive.
This time, Tom is taunting harry apes instead of Harry Potter.
Branch out a bit, dude!
Hey, at least he's working.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the great reviews, but it really shows that people need to learn to make better trailers. The trailers for both this and Crazy Stupid Love were TERRIBLE and I would never waste my team seeing the films based on them.
Did you see the latest trailer? That's actually what got me interested in seeing it. The first trailer I saw for it for it sucked, though.
Here's the crappy one:

Here's the new good one:

It's amazing to me what good editing can do. That first trailer has terrible, isolated sound bites that make it seem like the acting and script suck. They're disjointed thoughts that sound forced and random.
The second trailer (actually, it's their third), shows some powerful moments and has a much stronger narrative. Trailer editing is an art, truly. With the first trailer above, I was ready to skip this movie. With the second one, I was ready to buy a ticket. And with the reviews and buzz being incredibly strong for it, I'm looking forward to it!
I've just never been crazy about the Planet of the Apes franchise in general. All these prequel reboots are sort of getting on my nerves. I was pissed at what they did to Star Trek. It wasn't "bad", but it totally deviated from the essence of the series and became just another action flick, but I digress. Talking apes just aren't my bag.
I just got in from seeing this movie. It was fantastic. I am so glad I gave it a chance. The perfect summer blockbuster with great special effects. I also enjoyed the story especially during Caeser's early years.

I just got back from this movie and I really enjoyed it. It would have been better if a family in the front row of the theater did not take a baby to the film though. This is definitely not a film to take very young children to.
Spoiler:
I also thought Tom Felton once again did a terrific job of playing a bad kid like he did when he played Malfoy in "Harry Potter."

Loved this movie. I choose to ignore 'Escape' onward and replace it with this movie.
