Rob Schneider Takes Out Ad In Variety Slamming Gibson

Posted: 8/6/06 at 7:04pmDeuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo star Rob Schneider is the first actor to publicly announce he will never work with Mel Gibson due to the anti-Semitic remarks he made when he was arrested last Friday. Schneider took out an ad in Hollywood trade paper Variety slamming the star for his behavior in "An Open Letter to the Hollywood Community." The ad appeared yesterday and said, "I, Rob Schneider, a 1/2 Jew, pledge from this day forth to never work with Mel Gibson-actor-director-producer-and anti-Semite." Schneider then went on to say even if he were offered the lead role in Passion Of The Christ 2 or a "juicy voice-over role in his new flick Apocalypto and spoke ancient Mayan" he would still turn them down. He also repeatedly praised Hollywood talent manager Bernie Brillstein for publicly saying he would refuse to work with Gibson because "I just don't like bigots." The actor continued by saying he had recently directed a film called Big Stan in which there was a part for a Nazi gang leader "which apparently Mel would be perfect for." Schneider said he would still not cast Gibson in that role and ended the letter by saying, "Of course that would only be after I talked with my financial backers. Some of whom share Mr. Gibson's hankering for a good bottle of tequila. Because, after all...I don't get to call all the shots."

Go Rob.
Will the rest follow suit?
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

I'd take it more seriously (I think Rob is one of the worst actors out there) if this came from Spielberg or someone of his calibur.
But I'm proud to see that SOMEONE (whether D list or not) has spoken out against Mel.

You're pretty shallow, aren't you, kid?

I'm shallow for not giving a damn what Rob Schneider thinks? Yes, I applaud him for speaking out, but, if it was someone who I admire more (like Spielburg), I'd care more.
If it makes me shallow, then so be it.

not for nothing, but if you're such an admirer, why didn't you spell his name Spielberg?

I did the first time!
I was too busy getting the "i" before the "e". I'm not much of an admirer, though, really. He was the first Jewish person to come to mind.

I guess Rob S isn't afraid of the anti Jew backlash which is almost certain to be the result of anyone publicly denouncing Gibson. One producer actually stated" I'm old and don't have to worry about getting my next picture made. "
The funny thing is ,of course, that if the members of the Jewish faith in the entertainment community DID blacklist Gibson and try to end his career they'd actually be giving creedance to all thos Protocol's of Zion,Jewish Conspiracy believers. We cn't win- only keep up the good fight.
Frankly, that's all I really hope for out of all this is that the asimilated North American Jews will become more aware of how subtly prevalent Anti Semitisim really is, not see themselves as immune to the effects, that it can only happen to "other people". The old "sha, be quiet, be nice it will all go away, just act like them and do what they want" is not a good survival technique as Germany proved over 50 yrs ago.

Although some of them, I'm sure, are your best friends.

Why is this still an issue?
The man said something while he was drunk. Meanwhile, Madonna is mocking Christianity in her new show and nobody bats an eye.
#15re: Rob Schneider Takes Out Ad In Variety Slamming Gibson
Posted: 8/7/06 at 12:24pmIt's much ado about nothing. As I stated in another thread, the real issue is that he and other drunks are in control of 2 tons of metal, that kills people. Nobody even mentioned that. Didn't anyone learn about sticks and stones...?

Actually, a lot of people are batting an eye about Madonna. The Catholic church (atleast in Rome) is going nuts.
It's Madonna.
It's not like this is something she's never done before.
I've seen the pictures, and I don't like it.
And Jason said was I was meaning to say. I doubt Mel and Rob will ever be in a movie together.

I'm anxious to see what Mel will do to atone for his remarks (and how the Jewish community will react) before I cast him into the depths of hell. I don't agree with what he said, but I've done stupid things under the influence--not quite on his level, though...

In my experience, people usually speak truths while under the influence because the barrier of resistance is down. So one can dismiss Mel's comments as a drunken vowel movement if they like, but personally, it's all too telling.
And it's not much ado about nothing. At all. Being silent, writing it off or not taking such matters seriously only contributes to the negative attitudes that some people in this country have. And people HAVE spoken about him driving drunk.
#19re: Rob Schneider Takes Out Ad In Variety Slamming Gibson
Posted: 8/7/06 at 1:54pmYes, that's fine; but I'm still amazed by the focus on that, when driving while drunk kills and maims thousands, each year. About that, nothing.

Posted: 8/7/06 at 1:56pmAgreed. Schneider is a C list (maybe a B list). But a full page ad in Variety costs $$$ and its not likely to show a positive return either in his career or socially. But props to him for having the cujones to even do it as a satiric joke.

John - there HAS been a lot in regards to him driving drunk. Maybe you're just not catching those stories.
And having had friends who've died because of drunk driving, I am very sensitive to the issue. But let's not discounta the millions upon millions who've died because of hatred (and I'm not just referring to Jews). Statistically, it's a higher #.

He also said he owned all of Malibu and would spend his fortune getting the police fired. When you look at the entirety of his statements, you can see how stupid the remarks are.

Posted: 8/7/06 at 2:04pmGothampc - I think you know what I'm talking about. I didn't mean to suggest that people ONLY speak the truth when drunk. My point was that the barrier of propriety is knocked down and that little switch that says "don't say that out loud" doesn't work well. He was thinking it. And he said it. The only thing the alcohol did, in my opinion, was remove restraint.
