Posted: 10/26/04 at 12:06pmOne of the great baritones of the 20th century, especially in Verdi. He had such a great down to earth persona about him that allowed him to popularize opera to masses a generation before Pavarotti. He'll be missed.

Posted: 10/26/04 at 12:55pmMy old voice teacher did a number of operas with him and apparently, he has the weirdest warm up sounds ever. Almost growling combined with a yawn on an ascending scale...hard to describe but...it's weird. Regardless of how he warms up, his voice is simply unmatched.

Phenomenal. One of my vocal idols. He will be missed.
