So last night I had the awesome pleasure of going to see Roger Waters play in East Rutherford. This year I became very close with a friend of mine who has basically changed my life with rock and roll; classic rock had always been around in my head, and I'd always enjoyed it, but I didn't start SERIOUSLY listening to it until the beginning of last semester (my sophomore year of college) when I saw Ken Russell's film version of Tommy for the first time. I didn't even know whether I liked it or not, and a week later I went to my friend to ask to watch it again. So I started going through entire libraries of great rock bands, from The Who to Pink Floyd to The Beatles, Cream, The Doors, etc. It's been an awesome experience, so I was psyched when I had the opportunity to get tickets to see Roger Waters.
What an INCREDIBLE show. It's not just a rock concert. It's like...a whole theatrical experience. The combination of FX effects, lighting, and video projections is just astounding. After the show, I literally called a good friend of mine who's going into stage management to say, "Okay, you need to PSM for Roger Waters so you can have cues like, 'Fire...go. Pig...go.'" "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" had a whole video tribute on the screen while the band played that was really moving, especially as Syd Barrett has become one of the artists to really affect me.
It's quite the experience to hear Dark Side of the Moon played live in its entirety. Plus there were a lot of my favorite Pink Floyd numbers in the first act and the encore, especially good ones from The Wall.
In any case, I know he's playing at Madison Square Gardens in a week or so, and I just wanted to recommend this amazing show to any fans. Seeing this legend of rock surrounded by the smell of beer and pot and people who are in love with his music is certainly not an experience I will forget anytime soon.

Glad you enjoyed the show. Saw both of his Garden shows last fall and loved them. Nothing like Pink Floyd songs live. Saw them (minus Roger Waters) somewhere around 1987, whatever tour that was.
If I had the extra money, I'd go again to Roger's, but I'm waiting for the Genesis concert in Sept instead.

I didn't know Waters was touring again. I'll see about going when he hits NYC. I remember seeing his RADIO KAOS tour, which featured an unforgettable performance of "Great Gig In The Sky" with the original vocalist, Clare Torrey. Astounding.
This was about the same time as Pink Floyd's MOMENTARY LAPSE OF SENSE-- sorry, REASON tour, and I remember being impressed with the effectiveness of Waters' leaner and much meaner show, compared with the more bloated Floyd show. I'd have listened to Waters all night, but by time Floyd got through the obligatory encore of "Run Like Hell" I was more than ready to leave.
