"In January, General Services Administration chief Lurita Doan and Karl Rove deputy Scott Jennings held a video conference with top GSA political appointees, 'who discussed ways to help Republican candidates.' ”
"Jennings, the White House’s deputy director of political affairs, gave a PowerPoint presentation on Jan. 26 of polling data about the 2006 elections."
When Jennings concluded his presentation to the GSA political appointees, Doan allegedly asked them how they could 'help ‘our candidates’ in the next elections.' ”
The Hatch Act explicitly prohibits partisan campaign activities on federal property.
"During a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing today, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA) questioned Doan about the contents of Rove’s PowerPoint presentation. Doan repeatedly claimed ignorance of the contents of the slides and the verbal presentation that Jennings made. So Braley reminded her with some examples from this “nonpartisan” briefing"

As Nancy Pelosi said to George Bush, "Calm down with the threats, there's a new Congress in town. We respect your constitutional role, we want you to respect ours. This war must end, the American people have lost faith in the president's conduct of the war, let's see how we can work together."

I really wonder how long the American public will buy this "Can't remember:" strategy that seems to be the alibi of choice. Even if she is telling the truth, the amount of times we've heard in the news that somebody "Can't remember." doing an illegal act is making that alibi worthless. It's a pretty worthless alibi in the first place no matter which side of the aisle you are on.
(This coming from one of the most forgetful, absent-minded persons you'll ever meet.)

That answer is a dodge, Papa.
These people went to work for the public trust, they ought to be prepared--in ADVANCE--for appropriate oversight to be exercised, just like the rest of us with less important jobs must be prepared for whatever oversight we are subject to.
If I take someone out to lunch on my expense account, I must be prepared to explain to my boss and to the bean-counters in Accounting the nature and purpose of that lunch. I am not ALLOWED to say, "I don't remember."
Oversight. You want the glory? You deal with the responsibilities. A concept ignored by the Bush Administration.

June 27th, 2005 was the day after the Pride Parade, naturally I don't remember a thing.
However, at work, I have an online calendar; a microsoft outlook calendar as part of our e-mail system; my personal day planner; and my one-day-at-a-time day planner. Daytime activities could also be reconstructed via personal e-mails.

The issue involved is EXACTLY like an expense account: ACCOUNTABILITY--only the stakes are MUCH higher.
Why is it Republicans talk so big about MORALS and care so little for INTEGRITY?

we'll get back to you after we interview the sources that have you at 3pm meeting with lobbyists of oil companies on campgrounds. but you should know that we have several credible witnesses who place you with the lobbyists.
plus, the lawyers say they'll make mincemeat of those kids on the stand.

I'll have you know that it is against federal law for me or to disclose the names or any identifying information about those children without express consent of their parents first. As you will have no idea who their parents are unless I give you identifying information, (ie their parent's names) you'll never get one of them on the stand and I refuse to call and ask as I am sure you are having the phones monitored. If I find out that you have somehow stolen the information, I will have your butt in court so fast it will make your head spin.
You may however force my coworkers and supervisors onto the stand in which case the worst dirt you'll get on me is that I used an imaginary snake that "kept running away from us" to get a camper from one activity to the next.

Posted: 3/28/07 at 10:29pmI have recruited the lifeguards as witnesses where they will testify that the kids were trying to dunk me in the pool the entire time. Exhibit A will be pictures of my back from that day which shows the bleeding scars of children's nails digging into my back during their attempts to dunk me.

Posted: 3/28/07 at 10:44pmoh please, ya think we're not gonna subpoena the camp records? we'll put every kid who's even been near that camp through a grand jury. heck, you'll be lucky if we don't decide to start looking for recovered memories. i've also got a girl who's already testified that you paid her to scratch your back, fart and call you a bad boy.

pj, really? the "but, but clinton" defense? even goth gave up on that one.
besides, it's wildly disingenuous to infer what i was or was not saying back then. i'm quite certain we didn't know one another. in fact, there's not a person on this board who did know me then. nor do we share any mutual acquaintances who could have apprised you as to what i was or was not saying then.
as far as whining, after watching you whine for the better part of three years, i must have picked up some bad habits.
