0%? Zero? I know it's early, but this doesn't bode well for one of the most anticipated films of the season. Poor Annette.

This is odd, because the press leading up to now has been pretty positive. Of course, that was before they actually saw the film . . .
it looks amazing and rarely do I agrfee with RT
I love the book - but I must say, unless there's been some major effects done, Evan Rachel Wood (one of my faves) is completely physically wrong for Natalie.
Good or bad, I can't wait to see my Cheno lip-lock Annette!
Yes! HOT!!
This film is a mess.
Damn. Perhaps I'll just hold onto my memories of the book.
Do. It is a bad film.

Sometimes it's hard to make the transition from an unrealistic piece of fiction to the silver screen.
Well, Namo will be gloating into his coffee this morning.
ETA: See?
Aw, I was really looking forward to this and thought it would be good. I'm not sure if I'll see it now; I love the book and I always hate watching a bad movie version of a book I love.

They probably had to slap a sticker on every print:
"What we meant to say when we said this film is based on true events, is that it is based on the impressions and imaginings of a creative writer. Many of the events that the main character experiences actually happened to other people, but 'Augusten' 'Burroughs' incorporated them into his own story to protect their anonymity. What is important is that their stories get out there."
Yes, you've pointed that out with every thread or every mention of this book ever on the board.
We get it now.
FYI, the book was based on REAL events Augustine went through. I thought everyone knew that.
I adored the book and the previews look good, so i'll see it anyway. If it is a mess, I'll just reread the book, no big deal. Sorry Dame, but I have never agreed with your movie opinions anyway so I think I will like this film =)
EverythingIsRENT,
Let me guess.. you loved Rent the movie.. didn't you?
Annette B is really good in it however. But the movie is truly bad.
Indeed, I did love RENT, and hated the Procuders, which I recall you loving =P

Yes, I know. The whole thing hinges on that lie.

Because it's made up.
Though not necessarily an indicator, the family he lived with is suing for defamation of character.

You know how when you were reading outrageous exploit after crazy detail and you thought, "Wow, this is WILD! And this really happened to him! You can't make this stuff up!!"?
Yes, you can.
When did we start talking about Fiction Writer?
The real problem with the book -- as potential screenplay -- is its lack of solid, linear storytelling. It's a quirky "slice" of a group of eccentrics' life that doesn't ultimately go anywhere. I laughed, even out loud, but it's not a page-turner with any building sense of a destination being reached. Though there are notable rule-breakers film, a medium demanding more structural discipline, is seldom kind to material that doesn't play by rules, to rambling "slices," no matter how vividly drawn. The Augusten character is a passive quasi-victim, devoid of compelling catharsis. Film demands a journey be ... well, a journey.
