You really think he doesn't get it???
He gets it perfectly.

"He's confusing health care and health insurance."
No, it's the Democrats that are doing that. US healthcare has always been the best in the world. It's been the best in the world because we've spent more money on research and development of new drugs and ways to heal sickness and disease.
The Democrats are currently trying to ruin that system. Look what they are doing: forcing everyone to take health insurance but not offering any public option or relief from the insurers whims.
Ask your elected officials: why can't we buy health insurance across state lines? Why can't there be tort reform? Why do people like John Edwards become millionaires by soaking the health system while doctors have to take out higher and higher premiums on malpractice insurance?

IF tort reform and buying insurance across state lines is so important why did Republicans never address the issue during the six years they had full control of government?
And could you please site the cases of malpractice John Edwards was involved in that you feel were frivolous.

Rush made it out ok, so clearly health care is NOT "dandy".
I'll strike this one up to a missed opportunity.

Actually, Edwards largest award came via a product liability lawsuit settlement where: a 5-year-old girl was disemboweled, but survived, after being caught and suctioned by wading pool's defective drain. Despite 12 prior suits with similar claims, manufacturer continued to make and sell drain covers lacking warnings. Settlement of 25 million.
His largest personal injury case, which went to verdict where: the application of abdominal pressure and delay in performing c-section caused brain damage to infant and resulted in child having cerebral palsy and spastic quadriplegia. Verdict set record for malpractice award. the Jury award was 23.25 Million
I think litigation in both of those cases is highly appropriate.

"US healthcare has always been the best in the world."
According to who? The insured? The wealthy? The Insurance Companies? Ask someone who's poor or uninsured or underinsured how good US healthcare is. If you don't have access to health care, then it doesn't make a damn bit of difference how good it is.
"The Democrats are currently trying to ruin that system. Look what they are doing: forcing everyone to take health insurance but not offering any public option or relief from the insurers whims."
Did I miss something? Were the Republicans not allowed any input? Were they not allowed to put forth a bill on their own? Where was their proposal for a Public Option? Where was their proposal for relief from the insurer's whims? Of all the disingenuous statements I've ever read...that ranks right up there.

Rush calling the system, "dandy" sparked a huge debate in the car between my boss, his wife and my myself during an hour long car ride. He believes we have the best health care in the world, which may or may not be true, but SO isn't the point. He thinks that controlling or getting rid of unions is the answer to everything nationwide. I tried to explain to him that unions here are different than they are in other places and wouldn't really solve anything where I grew up. He said I don't know what I am talking about and maybe that's the case, but I don't know anyone in a big union in Tennessee. (I do know unionized guys here who get paid to sit in their truck all day, bitch when asked to step onto the job site and then get paid 10x what I make..) I know I don't understand the union thing, but private contractors are the way things are done in Tennessee so getting rid of them wouldn't help much there. He bitched about teacher's unions being a huge problem and how pay next to nothing for health insurance. In Tennessee, teachers start out making 24k per year. I guess he's living in his NY/NJ bubble and not aware that things are different elsewhere.
When I spoke of people who couldn't afford health care, he said that he had never had a problem paying for it because he worked hard and went to college. I argued that he lived with his parents while in school. Many people have to start working full time right after high school and pay rent and health care and real bills that he didn't pay until AFTER college. There's also the fact that many college grads can't FIND work now. He said anyone who can't afford it is lazy and he shouldn't have to foot the bill for anyone else. I told him he couldn't understand because he had never been poor. His response was that when he and his wife first married, money had been tight. I again said, "But you've never been POOR." He said, "Well, I have never been dirt poor trash." If I survive the next four months without ending up in prison, it will be a miracle.

I admire your restraint so far, Jersey Girl.
I suppose it's a shining example of (his) ignorance is bliss.
(Gothampc) US healthcare has always been the best in the world. It's been the best in the world because we've spent more money on research and development of new drugs and ways to heal sickness and disease.
We may have the best that money can buy (and develop), but that doensn't mean much for overall healthcare when outcomes are frequently not great, or as great as they should be. We are ranked below other countries in outcomes per healthcare dollar spent per patient.
In other words, the ROI, return on investment, in healthcare could and should be better.

I believe we do have the best health care in the world. The problem is, millions of people can't afford it and therefore don't have access to it . Rush probably received phenomenal care, because he either has insurance or paid for it out of pocket.
I wouldn't be surprised if he'd faked the whole incident just so he could now claim to speak as a health care expert.
He's already a medical expert! He knew that Michael J. Fox was "exaggerating" the effects of his illness in front of Congress, remember?

Ditto to the posts above. For those who can afford it, we have great health care. What we do not have is great access to health care.

As goth always implies, and as Mr Roxy explicitly once put it: nobody has a RIGHT to healthcare.
Ah the ethics of our sainted and greatest American system. Brings a tear to the eye.

Aside from the whole health care/health insurance bit, I like the contradictions in the quotes from Limbaugh in that article.
About his ailments:
"All people can do is make wild guesses about it."
Then:
"The treatment I received here was the best that the world has to offer.”
Must have been some good wild guesses.
