Well I never saw this coming-- even he doesn't believe the crap he says:
"I feel liberated, and I'm going to tell you as plainly as I can why. I no longer am going to have to carry the water for people who I don't think deserve having their water carried. Now, you might say, "Well, why have you been doing it?" Because the stakes are high! Even though the Republican Party let us down, to me they represent a far better future for my beliefs and therefore the country's than the Democrat Party does and liberalism.
I believe my side is worthy of victory, and I believe it's much easier to reform things that are going wrong on my side from a position of strength. Now I'm liberated from having to constantly come in here every day and try to buck up a bunch of people who don't deserve it, to try to carry the water and make excuses for people who don't deserve it. I did not want to sit here and participate, willingly, in the victory of the libs, in the victory of the Democrat Party by sabotaging my own. But now with what has happened yesterday and today, it is an entirely liberating thing. If those in our party who are going to carry the day in the future -- both in Congress and the administration -- are going to choose a different path than what most of us believe, then that's liberating. I don't see this with any animosity about anybody, and I don't mean to make this too personal.
There have been a bunch of things going on in Congress, some of this legislation coming out of there that I have just cringed at, and it has been difficult coming in here, trying to make the case for it."

That's that whole hindsight thing and, if read critically, just makes him seem even more of a pandering twit than I thought he was before.

I think it illustrates a very basic difference between R's & D's- NO liberal talker would stick up for a policy they don't believe in! They are always taking friends to task for not being "Perfect" on issues.
I wonder how Limbaugh's audience will take him saying that he doesn't always mean what he says!

Posted: 11/8/06 at 4:22pmthe majority of those who listen to his program will cheer. they'll see this as rush being unshackled from having to defend those rinos in dc just because it's an election year and thus, finally, able to advocate for "real" conservative values.

Posted: 11/8/06 at 7:40pmHe is trying to find his new audience. With the shift in "The Peoples Mandate" He sees his position threatened (as I am sure all those Right Wing Mouthpieces do), so he has to pander to a more moderate base. It is going to see how that crone Ann Coulter does. Hopefully she will just dry up and blow away.

Posted: 11/8/06 at 11:19pmI saw some icky thing on a cable channel discussing this tonight. He had been invited to the White House and all the Conservative commentators were talking about how they aren't just mouthpeices for the Republicna party-- and now they are all saying "Thank heavens we no longer have to be mouthpieces for the republicn party...."

His "dittoheads" are indeed going to be hopelessly confused. I can see them now, smoke pouring out of their ears, nuts and bolts falling out of their mouths, while a siren goes off in their tiny little brains--"SYSTEM PARADOX! RUSH SAID HE WAS WRONG! RUSH IS NEVER WRONG! PARADOX, PARADOX!"
Well, if your highest ambition is to be a carbon copy of a pill-popping, flip-flopping gasbag (that is what "dittohead" means, isn't it?) maybe life isn't worth living anyway.

Limbaugh unwittingly reveals a major flaw in the recent hard-right conservative tactics. John Kerry voted in favor of the Iraq war, then later realized that was a mistake and admitted it. For this, he was jeered at and called a "flip flopper" by Rush and his cronies (Coulter, etc.) Meanwhile, said cronies have been twisting themselves into painful knots trying to justify the Iraq war ("Saddam had WMDs!" "Well, he didn't, but he helped engineer 9/11!" "Well, maybe not, and he didn't actually have WMDs, but he's evil and the country needs to get rid of him!" "Well, the country's in chaos and the world hates us now, but to leave would be cutting and running!") instead of just admitting their mistake as Kerry did.
To boil it down: Liberals (I use the original definition of the term as anyone who is "fair, just, and humane") adjust their beliefs to fit the facts. Hard-right conservatives adjust the facts to fit their beliefs. Which position is more mature and desirable?
