HA! I wondered why they picked six years to fast forward. I assumed it mayhave been because adults don't necessarily look too different in six years time so they wouldn't have to go crazy with old man makeup.
You asked about my thoughts on the finale in the Downton thread--so I'll post here. I really liked the last episode actually--especially the more I thought about it. It felt realistic (in the over the top RTD way,) I'm glad the Commune didn't last ridiculously long, I even liked the final line. It was definitely anti-climactic and low key, but mostly worked for me. It also felt realistic that people can be such a major part of your day to day life for 6 months or a year and then they basically disappear.
I was more confused by RTD's final episode for Banana. I love the main actress they featured again (so much so that I can't remember her name.) But Banana has been a show about GLBTQWHATEVER relationships of various sorts--especially young ones, and... For an ending this episode kinda caught me by surprise. Somewhere RTD said it was one of the things he was most proud of writing which is fine--I definitely found it compelling in parts, but... (And that odd semi musical theatre ending scene--brought about because the character liked Les Miz?--was... just odd.)

Thanks Eric.
I also liked the final line although we went through a lot to get there. Personalising it, I would change it slightly from referring to being gay to referring to being concious! Or to come to terms with existence!
And, yes, new friends pour through the revolving door, some of them more - RTD, Sondheim, you and me all have been there. Although I've got a central core of long-standing old friends, I've also got ex-bf's whose name I can't even remember!
I was thrown a bit by the musical-scenes in the last epiosde of Banana. It wasn't Banana at its best but it was still good.
I think, in conclusion, I enjoyed this a lot as television drama but it wasn't the incredible, affirmative experience that QaF turned out to be. Maybe, in the age of the internet it never could have been. QaF's moment was there, helping gay men to find themselves, just before the internet did.

That was a very upsetting moment for me when I reached the age where I realized I also didn't even remember the names of some of the guys I dated or hung out with weekly for half a year.
I agree with you on Banana--and I think Cucumber too, overall. As you imply, due to a myriad of factors (even if one of them is NOT a plethora of decent gay-based dramas on tv in the past 15 years,) it would be impossible to replicate what QAF did.

Can't remember the name of the bf but can remember the name of his stupid, jealous dog.
