Risk and reward.
The rewards of being able to attend are great. Even when it's for work.
The risk, in this case, is something to think about.
But, it's also feeling like the security is going to be the best anywhere.
Decisions to be made...
Ps
I am very grateful to have such a caring CEO.

Can't we just cancel this? I'm all for the Olympics and what they stand for but all these preparations totally go against all of that. The Olympic Spirit is not what it was and I'm very nervous about these games. I'm not one to jump on the media hype bandwagon but I just have a sinking feeling every time I see an article about the upcoming games.
I absolutely love the Olympics and, after actually getting fairly into the Games in Vancouver (I've always been more of a Summer Olympics fan), I was excited to watch some of the events in Sochi. But I've also been getting a sinking feeling every time I see or hear something about the Games in Sochi.
I feel so bad for the athletes who have trained so hard for so long, that their Games might not go smoothly (which is a best-case scenario), and I can't imagine how they feel even getting ready to go to Sochi under these conditions.

I understand this so much. I'd hate to "punish" them because of their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. But, I'd rather have them be disappointed than hurt or worse.

We should all pitch in and buy him a gift. Think he'd want one of those Ralph Lauren Olympic sweaters?
And honestly - who wants to go to Russia in February? Brr!

Oh, yes, definitely. It just makes me feel especially bad for athletes in a sport with a relatively small window of time to be on top (I'm really thinking of ladies figure skating, where a 16 year old now might be too old for the Games in Pyeongchang in 201
. But missing out on the Olympics is better than the danger they might face in Sochi.

While the assurances from the CEO that I could make my own decisions were comforting, and appreciated, I have decided to stick with the plan, and will be attending.
I've had a couple of conversations this week with people who are already there (doing a lot of the production set-up), and they report that security is tighter than they've ever seen in any Olympics or large event they've ever been a part of. (And these are folks who have been doing this for decades).
That doesn't mean it's not without it's risks. But, life isn't without risks.
So, off I shall go. I'll have a shot of vodka for you all.

LOL - yuck!
I've been assured by work friends and colleagues who have already arrived that my hotel is fine. And has heat and hot water.
The Savoy it ain't, but... we all knew the London Olympics were something pretty special.
Who knows, I may need to book a vacation when I get back from this journey!
