Here's wishing her the best, but as those of us who've lost loved ones know, it's one of the hardest cancers to detect early and beat.

Yes, this is terribly sad news. In addition to being a gifted scholar and jurist, she is, in my experience, a lovely and generous person. My daughter is friends with her grandduaghter, and she's attended various school/grandchild related functions (including holding an assembly where she addressed, and answered questions from, the entire upper school). Yet another reason to be grateful that Obama's at the helm.
