With Wes back (As per Neve's interview) & Kevin Williamson writing then it has a good chance.

Posted: 11/30/09 at 5:41pmWhy doesn't Kevin write something totally new then? Taz, I LOVED the first one. I saw it in high school and loved it. Not crazy about the others.I just really am disturbed by so many sequels these days. The Rocky films, Indiana Jones,Rambo,SO many others.I just think it's sort of sad. Courtney Cox seems to be doing well with her new series but Neve? Courtney's husband? It's like they are looking for one last hurrah.Sad.

Posted: 11/30/09 at 7:18pmI don't think there's anything sad about it at all. Camp is a huge factor in the Scream films and bringing back original cast members only reinforces its style (Drew Barrymore's cameo in the original was HUGE and was solely intended for camp value). I think it sounds like fun and I'd certainly be willing to see it. It's not like this is Saw VII, with a new sequel out every single year of a film that enjoyed only moderate success from the beginning. It'll be a decade since the last Scream film and enough time has passed to renew a sense of nostalgia in its fans, but not so much (as with Indiana Jones, Rambo or Rocky), that we'll be faced with a sense of pity and horror at how much our heroes (and ourselves) have suddenly aged. Remakes and new horror films have mostly been completely savaged in recent years (with the lukewarm knock-off known as Paranormal Activity being the most successful lately), it's no wonder Wes and Kevin are going this route. It sounds like a very smart move.

Posted: 12/1/09 at 2:41amI'd be all for four happening in place of the miserable third film... I can't say I'm excited for these (and I loved the first two) but I don't see it all that weird or sad either...

Posted: 12/1/09 at 3:08amWell, SCREAM was originally made during the time when horror movies were getting to the point of being completely cliched and boring. I think it's only natural for it to come back with "new rules" now that the current flock of horror movies are, by and large, pure crap.

Not to read way too much into this but Scream was constructed to both be a satisfying slasher film and a mockery of those films. (Ironically of course it briefly led to its own share of bad slasher films--instigated as well by Williamson'sown I Know What You Did). Now the current horror films we're still inundated with (though they seem to be falling) are the torture porn variety. So wouldn't Scream four have to address that if it's to stay relevant as you claim?

Posted: 12/1/09 at 3:36amI don't know. I mean, if SCREAM becomes gore porn, it will lose everything that made the first two so great. It was all about the mystery and suspense. I actually think that is the biggest thing missing from horror movies today. It's all gore and no suspense. I say BRING IT ON!

TOTALLY agreed which is why I don't see this as that relevant a time for it:P oh well, I'll be happy to be proven wrong. (certainlyit can't be worse than Craven/Williamson's last team up, Cursed)
