I thought the surprise was that the show was actually funny, for a change. But I see that wasn't the case.

Notice how Tina Fey never had to actually interact, or even make eye contact, with Palin.

Wiig's take on Suze Orman was the single best thing on the show, for my money. But I'm a mega-fan of both Wiig and Suze.
The Palin performance was strained, shoe-horned in to accommodate all kinds of concerns. Not all that ha-ha-inducing.

I had to give up after the 1/2 hour. This show is painful. What was the point of the Japanese restaurant sketch? Did I miss something there? While the Suze Orman sketch was well parodied, it didn't have any momentum. There was no build to the sketch and really no comedy payoff.
Was the remaining hour this bad?

Yeah. the show came no where near the biting comedy and side spitting hilarity of American Carrol!

Who says right-wingers have no sense of humor? I can't stop laughing at Goth's posts!

I never agree with Goth, but what WAS the point of that Japanese restaurant sketch? Wiig was annoying in that Molly Shannon way - not funny at all!

If we were given a good reason why she was doing all that, it might have been funny in a Lucille Ball kind of way. But the fact that she can't keep a secret is not a strong enough motivation to go through all of that schtick. It's almost like Wiig or one of the writers designed all of the schtick and then couldn't come up with a story to put around it.

Kristen Wiig was very, very funny as the crazy lady from the McCain rally on Thursday night! "He's gonna turn the White House into a pyramid."

If the restaurant sketch was put on the air, what did not make it on the air had to be atrocious.
How can they do such great political humor & bite the big one on everything else?

My question is what is this show going to do when the election is over?? Aside from the political stuff there is nothing else appealing about this show. The writing and performing is pretty much lame. They need an infusion of some new material. The show seemes so forced most of the time.

Sarah Palin brought SNL its highest rating in 14 years. Take that Tina Fey.

oh, yeah. I'm sure Fey is quaking in her boots and crying to Lorne right now.

Tina has never been hotter. Lets see where Sarah Palin is a month from now.Palin was the butt of the joke and she was laughing at everyone laughing at her. SNL didn't even give her a punchline or anything to really do but read a teleprompter.

People didn't tune in to watch Sarah Palin- they tuned in to watch how Tina Fey and SNL would handle it! I thought it was very awkward. Palin had that smirk on her face and personally, I don't think she came across as more "human"- she came off less likeable. By the way, what makes her more "real" than anyone else? Also, at least Hillary was on screen at the same time as Amy. To me, it said a lot that Fey didn't share screen time with her. Just sayin'

Tina didn't share screen time with her and Baldwin got to rail about her to her face! All she had to do was stand there and smirk. What could be better?
Tina is a much more likable and human Sarah Palin then Palin is!

Anybody who would look to Roxy for tips on what's funny is a fool who deserves what he gets.
And proof that this thread WAS started by the blind, I'm catching up on the last half hour of the show right now (had an early morning today and went to bed after Weekend Update), of COURSE Darrell Hammond was on last night, he was in the Narc School sketch. I'm sure Roxy didn't actually WATCH the whole show he has no problem criticizing.
Tool.

I think the reason everyone tuned in was to see BOTH Sarah and Tina as Sarah on the same episode and to see if they'd do some kind of dueling Sarah's.
So I don't think Palin herself is the reason it was the highest rated SNL in 14 years...

Often when someone who SNL has been teasing turns up it's to show it's all in good fun- think of Janey Reno bursting in to her dance party for a tearful farewell, or Hillary Clinton going nose-to-nose with her doppelganger. But Sarah Plain made the pilgrimage to New York to look stupid and be mocked to her face. To make her stand there while Alec Baldwin ridiculed her was the height of rudeness- and I loved every word. SNL held her feet to the fire in a way no legitimate news outlet has been able to.

Just like everyone tuned in to see Hillary and Amy duel it out, right?
