It was Tony Curtis' idea to use the phony "Cary Grant" voice when he played the millionaire...Director Wilder Approved and it stayed in the script...

Tony Curtis is beautiful... and I think I'm in love with Jack Lemmon!
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

Osgood's repeated exclamation "Zowie!" was a highly popular term used during the 1920s to express great excitement. Sometimes people said "Wowie-Zowie!"

Watch closely for the Champagne Bottle in the next scene when Curtis and Monroe are enjoying a cold supper together.

Its a full bottle--Curtis pours one glass for Monroe--and then it's ALMOST EMPTY. (Curtis has to struggle to get the last drops out for his glass.)

re: SOME LIKE IT HOT

Curtis thought Monroe was so hard to work with (showing up late, flubbing lines repeatedly, etc.) that he grew to hate her so much that he remarked "Kissing Her was Like Kissing Hitler!"...

George Raft ('Spats') played in SCORES of Gangster films during the 1930s.

In SOME LIKE IT HOT, he gently parodies his own screen persona. (Flipping a coin was one of HIS trademarks.)

re: SOME LIKE IT HOT

M_E, you must know...
How come 'tis in B&W? Surely the star power was enough for the studio to splash out on a bit o' technicolor?
#44

re: SOME LIKE IT HOT

Wilder wanted to do it in B and W because Curtis' and Lemmon's makeup was so garish, and for artistic reasons.

re: SOME LIKE IT HOT

Billy Wilder (53 years old when SOME LIKE IT HOT was filmed) was originaly from Germany and firmly believed in the "old school" filmaking.

He was a little suspicious of Technicolor (although widely used at that time) because he thought it would simply INTERFERE with the comic aspects of the film and B&W would make the situations seem funnier and more true-to-life. (Plus, B&W was what he was used to shooting in--and his career began in 1929).

A year later, he directed ANOTHER Classic Comedy (THE APARTMENT--also with Jack Lemmon) in B&W as well.

"I'm Through With Love" rose to No. 1 on the charts for Bing Crosby in 1931.

Monroe and Ella Fitzgerald made recordings in the 1950s as well.
