Ok, ok, before you get all a-hatin', I love Sandi Patti (sometimes Patty, depends upon her mood).
Anyway, years ago, at the height of my "Christian music is the awesomest awesome" phase, I bought a Christmas album which, I believe, was called "Carols of the Messiah" or something.
It had the absolute best version of "O Holy Night" sung by Miss Patti.
I think the album's out of print and years of constant packing up and moving seem to have made this CD one for the apartment remodelers.
I have done quite a bit of research and the only "O Holy Night" I can find my Patti anywhere (including Itunes, Napster, and Yahoo Music) is a more recent version which is vastly inferior to her original version.
Does anyone know what version I'm talking about? better yet, got it or know where to get it? Thanks for the assist.

Sandi has an incredible voice! One of my all time, roof ripping songs is "Upon This Rock".
Her range is amazing!

Have you heard this "O", Diva? It's seriously one of the more impressive holiday recordings I've ever heard. She starts with her "signature" smooth pop sound, modulating upward more and more until the climactic moment is an E, I do believe.

I'll have to get it.
Although I do have to say, she got the strangest look on her face, when I told her I performed her songs in drag...

Oh my GOD! I just posted about her in the holiday thread! Thank God I'm not the only one who was raised listening to her albums.
I can't help you with "O Holy Night," but I remember how gorgeous it is.
I still love "The Gift Goes On."

I got to sing back-up for Miss Patti while she was in Michigan this year.
Let me just say that it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. To be on the same stage with one of the greatest voices I've ever heard... wow.
She is truly phenomenal and performs in four inch red stilettos! The woman has skill!

Posted: 12/5/06 at 6:09pmI had about 4 different cassettes of her singing Bible songs for children. For some reason, the most memorable of them for me is "Deep and Wide."

That's it. There's no cover art, dangit, but it does look like the same version on both albums.

I played Sandi Patti and the Friendship Company so many times when I was little....
"Open For Business" was my favorite Friendship Company album. I used to set up my stuffed animals on my bed and give concerts in my room to that album. My first taste of performing!

Oh, Orange, was that Sandi Patti and the Friendship Company?? Loved that tape...lol. I loved the song Beautiful Feet!
I went through a real Sandi Patti phase when the Baptists convinced me that I would go to hell if I kept listening to Poison. I sang Face to Faith and Pour on the Power in front of my church as a teen. Oh, I was SO floored by the sex scandal!

Heh. JErsey Girl, I loved me some Clay Crosse and did all his songs in church. Of course, he was embroiled in a sex scandal of his own (addiction to porn). They've always been INCREDIBLY mum on what kind of porn it was...but I know TONS of gay hairstylists and costumers in the Christian music circuit...

oh The Friendship Company! I remember that!
O Holy Night is my all-time favorite Christmas song. I can't remember if I ever heard her sing that or not. I bet she sounds amazing.

Posted: 12/6/06 at 10:52amI just heard her, recently, and she didn't impress; but, she sang the greatest version of The Star Spangled Banner, I ever heard.

Posted: 12/6/06 at 2:52pmI was a HUGE fan of hers years back. I agree that her version of The Star Spangled Banner has to best ever recorded. I'm off the youtube to see if there's any video footage of her live performances.

This thread could find me admitting to more than I am currently willing to own up to. I will say I adore Sandi, and her voice is ridic.
bwaysinger, i, too, sang many a Clay Crosse song at church. The Baptists especially loved his covers of Andre Crouch songs (The Blood Will Never Lose It's Power being especially noteworthy). Steve Green was another favorite to sing.
Now, however, it is 100% about David Phelps, whose voice is above and beyond almost any broadway voice you're bound to hear. He's amazing.
I could go on and on about good artists, but I should also mention Derek Webb as being the best artist in this genre -- not for vocal talent, but his lyrics are socially progressive and challenge the right-wing church at every refrain.

My mother used to sing a lot of Sandi Patti's songs a while back so I will check and see if she has that version of "O Holy Night". I never thought I would see her name on BWW!
I used to perform the duets "I've Just Seen Jesus" and "More than Wonderful" that she did with Larenelle Harris with my sister a while back.
