Scene searching fun!
Scene searching fun!#1
Posted: 12/31/06 at 7:43amSo at my college, my acting teacher assigned us to all pick 2 scenes that we would like to work on that are for 2 people. We will only get to do one monologue, so there is actually the possibility that neither of mine will get picked since my partner will pick 2 as well. I'm looking for some monologues that are ideally for one male and one female, but 2 females is fine too. I am looking for something relatively age appropriate (i don't think we should be 60 year olds haha) and not overdone even though this isn't an audition situation haha. Any suggestions on where to look or specific plays? I'm not used to searching for scenes the way I have for monologues. any help would be great!

Why not do a scene where you are older? When else are you going to play such good scenes except in class? Play them now and don't wait until you're my age.
I did, specifically the confrontation scene between Henry and Eleanor in The Lion in Winter. 14 minutes long and it takes you through every emotion there is. We were both 19, and I've rarely played such good writing since. You might need some directorial advice.
Also, in The Women there is a scene between a cook and a maid who are exchanging the gossip of the household. Both are female, but they can be any age and almost any type. It is a small scene done while a major scene change is going on behind this small inset. Look at the script. There's a lot of fun to be had there. And because the playing area is so small (2 chairs and a table will do it), it is all acting and very little blocking.
[I don't know if this scene is even in the film.]
