I gave out over 200 passes to RAY and many of our employees went to a private screening Thursday night in Manhattan.
They loved it, so they tell me. I couldn't make it. Damn.

PLEASE, PLEASE GO SEE THIS MOVIE! I went to see it this afternoon and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had in a movie. The casting was flawless. Jamie Foxx delivers an extremely accurate and moving portayal of this musical legend.I was amazed at how he transforms into Ray Charles. Kerry Washington was incredible as his wife Della Bea and I hope she recieves more mainstream roles now. Regina King, as usual, gives a great performance as one of his many mistresses. Newcomer Sharon Warren is touching as his mother. Aunjanue Ellis is great, but I wish she had more screen time. Clifton Powell is wonderful and this is a refreshing change from his normal jerk roles.
The cinematography is incredible especially toward the end of the film. I love the way the script unfolds his present in the movie and the past(I'm trying not to give away parts of the movie here).
My God, If this film doesnt recieve Oscar nominations for acting as well as other aspects, I will simply be pissed.

Jamie Foxx is fine, as is the supporting cast except for the actress playing the wife who is rather wooden. The movie itself is dramatically shapeless and predictably formulaic in its approach to biography. The audience seemed to enjoy itself enough. Updated On: 10/31/04 at 02:17 PM

Let me add that if the movie as a whole were as magical as the hummingbird/grasshopper-under-the-table sequences, you'd have had something really special.
