Selling my photos#1

Posted: 9/16/08 at 3:38pm

So i'm trying to take everyones advice and find a way to sell my images online. what is a reasonable price tho? i dont know what is fair and all the websites i am finding, seem to charge a pretty penny (and i only get a marginal and tiny profit from each sale). hmmm

i want them to sell! i dont want people to see them and go "ahhhh... too expensive!"

I think it's a great idea, pab!

As far as pricing is concerned, I haven't got a clue.

Good luck!

thanks shameless... i am trying! re: Selling my photos

the websites i am looking at basically host your photo, then they tell you how much it costs to print the photo, then they add a markup for your profit and their profit. with shipping fees, etc, it seems fairly expensive and i cant imagine anyone paying too much money for one of my simple 8x10's. i actually wanna sell! lol

you should see what they charge to have the photos framed!

thats why i thought maybe people could tell me "this is what i'd pay if i was looking for artwork..." so i could keep looking for companies that were more reasoable.

who knew this was such a hassle?

What about making your own site?

Would you consider selling some of them for use as stock photography? Ad agencies, corporate art departments and independent graphic designers use them all of the time.

i dont wanna sell them on my own because then i'd be in charge of printing, shipping, etc... and i'm already working 2 jobs to help support my family, so i am drained. re: Selling my photos

i'll keep looking till i find something reasonable.

NGD - my website is down as i get ready to relaunch it as a photography website. :) flickr is still up tho.

Never underestimate the value of your work. The higher the price someone pays for it the more they will value it.
You would be surprised what some people will spend for photographs!

I told you before - figure out all your costs (If you print your own, include paper and ink. Don't forget to add a percentage for your TIME and TALENT, and then add in a percentage for the cost of your web site, PC usage, camera usage, printer usage (these all wear out). If you send your pics to an outside source for printing, just add their costs to the overall total. Start out with whatever you think is fair and see what happens. You can always adjust the total up or down later. As volume increases, the cost per photo will decrease. At first you probably won't make much profit, but you just have to wait and see what happens. Personally I'm hoping for a poster sized print of some of them. That requires an outside printing source so they would naturally cost more. It would be worth it to have one of those gorgeous panorama photos hanging on my wall to look at when I'm in a New York state of mind...
