Hey Guys, I'm running for Senior Class president on tuesday. Just wanted to see what you guys though of the speech. Cheesy? Boring? Fun? Let me know:

Good Morning Senior Class of 2007. I’m Chris Mecca running for your Senior Class President. I think it’s obvious to say that after 12 long years of school everyone is excited for our senior year to finally arrive. Just think, in the next few months you will be spending countless hours filling out college applications and trying to make a decision on where your life will continue after high school. And although these times will go by fast, we still need to stand back and make the most out of our senior year. Between Homecoming and Spirit Week, Senior Week, Prom, Baccalaureate and of course Graduation we need to make sure that we make our senior the best year we’ve ever had. At our time here at Cave Spring we’ve seen three senior classes graduate and move on from Cave Spring. While I agree that each three of these classes have had there share of senior fun, I don’t think that there years will even begin to compare to the awesome year we’re about to endure. I’m all about making sure that when you graduate from Cave Spring that you look back on your senior year being the most memorable year of your high school career. In just eight months we will be walking across the stage receiving our High School diplomas, but before we get there let’s make our senior year the greatest year Cave Spring High School has ever seen. So vote for me, Chris Mecca, for Senior Class President: Making our senior year the BEST it can be!

I don’t think that there years will even begin to compare to the awesome year we’re about to endure.

I don't know if it was your intent or not, but endure to me is a negative word. Of course, I think school is negative, but I don't know if that was the way you meant to use it.

Great work!

Okay so maybe a word that would have a more positive connotation: encounter???

That sounds a lot better! I hope you win. I think the world would be a better place if there were more BWWers in power.

i would take out the "from cave spring" at the end of that line.

how big is your class?

at my high school (seniors class was small, less than 200)our speeches weren't as formal because we all knew each other. It just sounds impersonal in comparison.

Well, I have not clue how student elections work at your school, but as of now you don't really stick out. In most cases all these speeches reiterate the same idea...possibly give a more interesting spin, and/or have a great delivery. Perhaps this isn't something you can comfortably do, or is something that will be as well received, but if the podium you are making the speech on isn't center stage, pick up the mike (if it's hand held) and do some walking. There is simply nothing worse than listening to a slew of boring, generic, seemingly monotone speeches with someone just standing still. (Not to say that you will deliver yours in a manner like this what so ever.) But don't over do it.

Although, don't take my word, if you feel as if this won't be well received.

The whole school is made up of 850 students with close to 220 in the senior class.

Im not gonna lie, im kinda nervous about the elections. I think I have a pretty good shot, but living in the bible belt you always have those kids that hate the gays. While there isn't that much hatred at my school towards me, you never know how high students are going to think!

Once my election posters went up in the hall wall I heard two kids say, "Oh that stupid fag, Chris Mecca is running for president. Who the hell does he think he is. Does he think people are actually going to vote for him."

Those kids were also the bottom of the barrel rednecks which is not by any means the majority of my school.

But I guess we'll see

my senior year oh high school, a girl i had never met or heard of got up and rambled about mcdonalds french fries and how they always give you some but never enough and how that's what makes the whole meal worth eating. she related that to how we had some extra curicular activities and some art classes and some music classes but never enough and she would work to fix that. then she raised her fist in the air and said "if you elect me, i will get you your french fries!"

she won.

Scratch my idea perhaps? I go to a rather liberal school in NYC... it's people that you mentioned that make me think twice about applying to Emory.

Best of luck, and kick ass... spark the audience's interest! re: Senior Class President Speech. COMMENTS? Updated On: 9/3/06 at 10:53 PM

It's just the way they are. They will NEVER change. But they really have nothing going for them. That's why I don't normally worry about the comments I make. People stopped the whole fag and gay thing a while ago, cause they know it just doesn't bother me any more!

I love your idea, but something fun and interesting to you and me, is obscure and out of the box for them...

When you say think twice about applying to emory are you talking about Emory and Henry??

so, um your platform is "making this year the best ever?"
er, how do you intend on doing that?

that's the first thing people will ask......

and the word "obviously" makes anyone not seeing the obvious feel stupid, and you lose a vote

It's more or less an open ended question. You have to remember it's just class officers, not an actualy political election. The best rule of thumb is NOT to promise them anything such as a senior trip, winter formal, etc...If these things fall through, or faculty doesn't approve them, then you just end up looking like an ass. The purpose is to get the senior class excited...right now we're pretty dead b/c they don't necessarily have the motivation. It is strictly geared to making this senior year full of fun!!! It leaves on open-endedness to the whole thing as to what the fun actually entails.

Plus, once you get to your senior year, you don't care about class officers promising certain things like the ones mentioned above. They just want to have fun, and that's what i told them I would give them. They know I can pull it off. I was prom chair last year, and literally made it into the best damn prom CSHS had ever had. People loved me for it...

And there was much rejoicing from the stalkers...

On a less serious note, Chris Mecca from Cave Spring High School... You do realize that as Senior Class president you will have the responsibility of planning class reunions for the rest of your life. It's a committment that sometimes comes with the job, and one that shouldn't be taken lightly.

It's a pretty good speech, but in my opinion . . . like someone has already stated . . . nothing stands out. You don't have to promise new soda machines or whatnot, but think about adding something in there that will catch their attention and make them go "wow, I have to vote for him." You keep saying, "let’s make our senior year the greatest year Cave Spring High School has ever seen," but what are you going to do as class president to make that happen?

Just something to think about.

Elphaba, your avatar makes me laugh!

ON TOPIC: good luck with your speech. Here's an idea!
I'm asuming you're having a prom, no? Well, why not say what you plan to do to make that prom really stand out, or how you'll make it special. Take things that you know will happen this year and spice 'em up!
Now maybe this is a direction you don't want to go, but since you sort of brought it up, why not mention something about how you want to add an air of tolerance to your school? If you show them that you can be a role model with somehting to offer, than you're 99% there!

Also, I commend you on not letting those kids commenst get to you. Already you're a better person than they'll ever be.
Good luck!
