Now... before I get chastised for coming to a board to ask this question, I HAVE been looking for several months with fruitless results.

I need a monolgue and fast. I have my school auditions in little over a month and need to start working on my monologue (oooh... like LAST WEEK) haha.

I don't want a comedic monologue because I'm auditioning for Antigone, Cabaret, and various other serious shows. But Cabaret and Antigone are my two main desired shows (I adore the classic Greek shows, and cabaret is just... well... cabaret, duh!).

I did a monologue from LIFE UNDER WATER which I loved, but obviously can't repeat. One from Gypsy (and was told that we should NOT use a musical theatre monologue. lol)

I have my song, and my song is the least of my wories... it's monologues that kill me.

Do you have a play that has a great serious female one minute monologue? I don't use monologue books because they are evil.
I need a professional quality monologue.

thanks in advance.

Yes, thankyou, I've seen that, but found that most - if not all - of those monologues are from the various monologue websites online. I'm sure not only have my professors HEARD those monologues a LOT, they would know where I found them.

That and I have trouble locating the actual plays if they ARE from actual plays.

Do you have a monologue that you've used that you enjoy/liked?

why don't you go to the library and pick out a play at random? Just check to see if there is a main character that is female.(and if you have to have a certain time period that it was written in) You should read the whole play before you do a monologue anyways so you can understand your character.

I've used Picasso a lapin agile, The Shape of Things and some chekov. I usually tend to stay lighter for auditions. For college they usually would rather see comedies than dramas...

It's easy to make a cutting, as long as you can make it make sense. You can take out other characters speech so that it is only your character speaking.

Hope this helps

Thanks... though I don't have much luck reading plays and finding monologues.... sometimes the language just seems to ... stifled in monologues i try to find.

I try to stay away from Checkov because the language is so old.

And yes. I know you need to read the whole show.... I'm a theatre major, so I'm not a moron.... o_0 lol

I was just asking for some plays that people have used. Thanks for yours. I'll check out the first. We did Shape here last year, so I don't think I should use it.

And my professors said NOT to use a comedic monologue since we aren't doing any comedies next semester.

thanks!

A great classic monologue that is a lot of fun is in Medea. It's by Euripedes and it starts off "On all sides sorrow pens in me!" We just scenes from Medea in my theatre class, and she's got a lot of great monologues. The one I'm talking about is when she reveals her plan for how shes going to go about killing Creon and his daughter in 24 hours. She's pretty crazy, i dunno hahah but its worth looking at.

Medea is definitely my favorite Greek show. I'll ask my professors what they think of doing a classic monologue. We DO have Antigone next semester.... though I hope it doesn't rule out my chances for other shows by doing a classical piece. hrmmm... interesting thought.

I didn't know if you were auditioning to get into college or not... I know when I did... I had no idea how to approach a monologue, so sorry if I came off sounding rude...

I think medea would be good. Have they seen you audition before? Keep that in mind that they've already seen your other stuff so they even though you audition with a classical piece and do a knock out job they could remember you from your last audition if you did more contemporary and keep you in mind. Good luck and let us know :)
