Would a Shakesperian monologue be impressive to audition with for college IF you can pull it off? Or would a basic monologue be more impressive if you can make that one work even more. I just want to impress them, and I don't know if a basic 1 minute monolgue by Shanley would be sufficient.
Thanks!
Unless they specify that they want something classical, do a contemporary monologue.
Be sure to carefully look at the audition requirement specifications, because some schools explicitly DON'T want classical pieces, like Shakespeare. NYU, for instance, only wants pieces from plays written after 1900. If you aren't sure about that, I don't see any harm in getting in contact with the schools you're auditioning for and asking whether they'd prefer contemporary or classic pieces. If they say it really doesn't matter, I'd say whichever you feel most comfortable performing. I think auditioners can sense when you don't feel entirely comfortable with your pieces.
Hope that helped at least a little! Good luck with whatever you choose to do!
mainly they want contemproray pieces because most schools feel that highschool students have the sufficient amount of training to do classical pieces. Also, they want to see your personality-what kind of person you are so getting a contemporary piece taht you connect with is key.
