Posted: 11/21/05 at 11:14amI made the bf watch It Happened One Night this weekend and he actually enjoyed it! Especially the "fight" they have in the cabin when the cops come in looking for Ellie. I never realized how much Commie sentiment Capra put in his films, much to my delight, and then I began thinking of Mr. Smith, Deeds, IAWL, YCTIWY; many had the same ideals. But IHON is certainly the sexiest of all: Claudette's leg, Gable's chest, him giving her his pajamas, she falls in his lap, and of course, Shapeley's come-ons...so timeless and still very funny. And though I'm also a fan of The Thin Man, this deserved all the Oscars...though I might pick Myrna over Claudette, had she been nominated.

My favorite:
Claudette Colbert told friends after wrapping this shoot, that she'd just finished shooting the worst film she'd ever done. Gable, on the other hand, eventually came around, but didn't want to do the movie (but he was "loaned" to non-MGM studios as punishment for him continuously turning down "better" roles in MGM films).

Oh lildogs, get off your corncob.
I know exactly what you're talking about, I'm not a "kid" (bitch), and your post was just so much like an excited kid that I couldn't resist.

And my name is Matthew, not Jesus. I can see the similarities.

I have to give the nod to The Thin Man, but it happened one night is the sexier film.
I always loved the Communist leanings in Capra, it makes even IAWL (which on the surface is sentimental tripe) have the glow of subversion. What is Potterville, other the ultimate of capitalist greed? (Although, I always thought it was really sexy as well.)

Well, anything with Gloria Grahame in it is going to be sexy...
I WAS excited Matthew, I had never really thought much of the movie, but seeing it again made me appreciate all that I had (apparently) missed before.
IAWL also has the bit about "The money's in Martini's house, and Bert's house," George spreads the wealth throughout the neighborhood, relying on friends and family rather than the government/capitalist state.
