I love his poems and was just wondering what everyone else's favorites were. Some of mine are: Where the Sidewalk Ends, Invitation, Listen to the MUSN'TS, and The Unicorn.
Wow - such nostalgia. I love his stuff!

I don't have his books with me, but I remember being absolutely devastated when I found out he'd died. If anyone can convert a child to liking poetry, it's him.

"The Giving Tree"
One of the best books, let alone children's books, ever written. Magical, brilliant, and touching.
Plum and Luv: I couldn't agree more with you guys!
BB:'The Giving Tree' is a terrific one! It really makes you think too.
And Liam: That poem is terrific!
THE GIVING TREE slays me. Who do you think of when you read it?
I like Silverstein's lyrics for Loretta Lynn too.
It's silly but ever since last year when I think about it, it reminds me of some of my friends who performed it last year for Children's Theater which my high school drama department puts on. Which my group is doing Peanut-Butter Sandwich for in a couple of weeks actually along with a few other short ones. I'm excited. :) Little kids are terrific and quite hilarious.
Mrs. McTwitter, the babysitter, I think she's a little bit crazy.
She thinks thinks a babysitter's s'posed to sit upon the baby.

She wants a drink of water, so she
waits and
waits and
waits and
waits and
waits for it to rain.
LOVE Silverstein. Adore.
We're doing Lazy Jane as well. :)
As a kid, my favorite was always Hungry Mungry.

I loved "Trash" and "Sick"
My favorite poem by him is "Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out" or something similar in title to that. I think I recited it in fourth grade... or heard someone else reciting it...

Yeah isn't Sarah Sylvia Cynthia Stout called "Trash"? That is the one I loved too and could totally recite it!
I love those three!
Wow, I adore Shel Silverstein's work. It's funny that this topic popped up because when I was at Meijers last night I just happened to look over and pull out The Giving Tree and Where The Sidewalk Ends. I loved those books as a kid.
Keep your eyes peeled for "new" books being released soon. His estate is putting out several unpublished manuscripts that he had written!
Yay!
That's SO exciting! I can't wait!
