Hey everyone, I am currantly undergoing the lovely process of picking musical theatre programs to apply to. Toronto definetly has it going on in terms of opportunities in musical theatre, and I've narrowed it down to Sheridan and Randolph's programs since apparently they are the best in Canada. I'm planning on applying to both and going to whichever one I get into, but I'd love know...well basically which one is better haha.
So, I invite anyone who has attended (so the information is reliable) Sheridan or Randolph to share their experiances.
I hear Sheridan doesnt really offer much intensive dance training, while Randolph covers all three areas. True?

I go to Sheridan and I know a lot about what goes on in the Musical Theatre program. I think Sheridan is a great choice, and not just because I go there. The instructors are real hands on and there not just teaching, most of them are still working in the industry, so they are up to date.

From what I know, Sheridan does offer good dance training, ballet, tap, jazz etc.

But over all I know that it's hard program to get into, I know a ton of truly talented people who didn't make it last year, so my advice would to audition for both and see what happens. Let me know if u want any more info

If you want THE BEST theatre program in Canada National Theatre School in Montreal is your best bet. It's virtually impossible to get into, but it's the best.

Yeah, but I assume you mean the best Threatre program...I'm looking for a triple threat program. Thanks though, I'll look into that.

hey,

i just started checking this site out.
i am currently a 3rd yr. at sheridan and am graduating this april. i looked at the date you posted this and it was last yr. so i dont know if my imput will be of any help to you- because well u mite already be in first yr.

sheridan is by far a better school then randolph because it teaches you everything you need to know about singing, acting, and of course dancing. sheridan gives you the tools, u just have to apply them.

getting into the program is EXTREMELY difficult. the faculty is very picky and they know exactly what they want.

randolph may have more than 3 levels of dance, but it does not turn out the talented grads that sheridan does. as well, look at any current program of a music theatre show running in toronto and the number of sheridan grads versus that of randolph grads will sometimes double or triple them in numbers.

sheridan rocks. if you have any other questions let me know. i would be glad to assist.

Well, Randolph (which isn't an actual college, by the way) is very dance oriented.

Also, I've heard that Sheradan has gone down hill a lot lately, still good, just not as good as before.

Assuming this is a hot thread still, I'll add.

I'll argue and say that Randolph people ARE, in fact, getting work. Maybe not as visibly much as Sheridan but The Shaw Festival has hired quite a few graduates from the school in recent years (Michael Strathmore, Lisa Berry, Katrina Reynolds) and I think they've been making their rounds elsewhere. I actually know a few people in principal casting for Shaw's current season are Randolph grads. Frankly, sometimes it comes down to inherent talent and what the actor themselves expects of themselves.

I just got into Sheridan and am very happy. If you're still torn, pick what YOU want.

Does anyone know what Randolph's musical will be this summer?

While I'm at it, here's a couple of observations as a member of the audience:

1) Sheridan may have more opportunities for students to appear before an audience before graduation (3 mainstage shows and 3 concurrent studio shows per year plus less-publicized smaller shows), whereas Randolph seems to have one major musical per year plus other shows.

2) Randolph seems to have a massive female-to-male ratio so guys at Randolph may have an easier time landing major roles in their shows, while girls may find it especially competitive.
