No problem Sueleen - it's just something I'm very sensitive about. I appreciate the apology though, Thanks!
Drunk driving - especially among people who can afford to take other means of transportation when they get inebriated - is something that angers me a great deal.

Another celebrity with very poor judgement. Do they get taught how to make the poorest choice when faced with a decision? It just seems that we are reading this kind of stuff everyday. Is it rampant among celebrities or are we just getting bombarded with it in the press?

Shia will be in rehab by the end of the week. Isn't that how these things are resolved?

mc - we simply hold celebrities to a different standard. Like Stockard said, drunk driving by anyone is assinine - if you can afford the booze, you can afford the cab. He's just behaving like most young adults. People are hurt and killed daily by drunk drivers, and yet people still do it, celebrity and common folk alike.

This is an ongoing problem where I live. Long Island. The police complain when someone drives drunk however, there is VERY bad Long Island public transportation. Yes there is the long island rail road and the long island bus. But, those are so problematic that they can't fix the problem. The Long Island Rail Road was built ( and really is only good for) going to a given point on Long Island to the city and the other way around. And, the busses really don't go anywhere useful.
I understand the whole argument that you shouldn't drive drunk and I agree with that. You shouldn't drive drunk period. However, if a government (like Nassau County on Long Island) realizes that this is a problem they can do things to help fix it and meet the people half way.

In some countries, drunk driving is punishable by death on the first/second offense. Shia did something stupidly dangerous, and probably something he's done a lot in the past and just didn't get caught. He comes across as a total douchebag, so this isn't surprising news.

Incredibly disappointing, since recently he was saying he would never do stupid crap like this. Hope he enjoys his painful post-surgery rehab and counts his lucky stars it wasn't worse.

"This is an ongoing problem where I live. Long Island. The police complain when someone drives drunk however, there is VERY bad Long Island public transportation."
Which has absolutely nothing to do with some jerk making the decision to get in a car after drinking.
"Yes there is the long island rail road and the long island bus." And, really, what more do you need? Do you expect a subway system? People drive on Long Island, winston. It's the suburbs.
And there are cab companies all over the Island that you can CALL from anywhere 24 hours a day.

What I ment was that if the local government feels that this is a problem they too should be helping out to fix the situation. For example create bus routs that go to the parts of towns where all the busses are ect. Instead of putting all of the hounous the people who are out drinking.
And, it doesn't help that a lot of the local cab companies on Long Island close at midnight when the bars are open for longer after that.
I never said that drunk driving was okay. All I am saying is that if a local governmetn is so against it then they should help to fix the problem as well. It should be a 50/50 job between the people living there and the local government.
