Did anyone see the new Martin Scorsese documentary about The Rolling Stones? While it certainly was not the greatest rock n' roll documentary ever, and it is true that the band may be (ok - is) past its prime, my entire family loved it. I think my 11 year old son (a huge Stones fan - in addition to being a tap dancing, musical theatre loving kid), got a kick out of seeing me squeal at the sight of Mick Jagger strutting across the stage. And, while I confess to still finding Mick to be incredibly sexy, I think I was, in part, viewing this show through the eyes of my teenage self, and was in heaven. The only thing that really bothered me was that Scorsese, I guess, clearly seemed to pack the front rows with what he perceived to be a telegenic crowd, and so it skewed way too young, and that felt really disingenuous to me. I would have expected to see more of an aging baby-boomer crowd, or at least children of the 60s, like me. Anyway, I highly recommend it. Here is the play list, for those who may be curious:
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Shattered
She Was Hot
All Down the Line
Lovin' Cup (with Jack White)
As Tears Go By
Some Girls
Just My Imagination
Far Away Eyes
Champagne & Reefer (with Buddy Guy)
Tumbling Dice
You Got the Silver (with Keith on vocals)
Connection (with Keith on vocals, incomplete)
Sympathy for the Devil
Live With Me (with Christina Aguilera)
Start Me Up
Brown Sugar
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
Shine A Light (heard, not seen, during the end credits)
